Is everybody getting these postcards? Got to believe it's an attempt to compensate for drop in sales due to the economy. I just got mine in the mail. Has anyone called or checked into it? Interested to hear the pros and cons.

Funny, I got one yesterday also. As a rule extended warranties aren't a good deal. If you don't like working on your tractor, don't have alot of tools, and don't want to mess with it if it breaks, and extended warranty might be a good deal.

I also would like to know the cost and terms of the extended warranty.

They wouldn't sell them if they didn't make money on them so the odds are in your favor. So it comes down to what dodge_man says. It's a comfort level thing.

Radioman,

I checked with the local dealer and he said a BX24 one year extension costs $660 with no hour limitation and a two year extension costs $1200 - again no hour limit.

Dealers can tell you about other models for the rest who are interested as some do have hour limitations but not the BX24.

This adds a year (or two) more full warranty coverage and after the extension expires, the power train warranty still is in effect.

Johnny Law got it right about a "comfort level thing".

The way it works out, the more people Kubota can sell these to spreads their risk over a broader range. The personal decision to extend or not should also depend on what's covered. What does the warranty extension cover?

BX24D,

I had the same thought.

He said it was the same coverage as the basic warranty - defects in material or workmanship.

Not a maintenence or service policy but failures like warranty would cover in the first year.

thanks guys- dodgeman and yankee clipper hass said dit the best. As some one who enjoys working with tools to fix things, it probably better not to get the extended warranty.

Got one of those cards last week too. Got me a little worried since it said my basic warranty was expiring soon and I just got the machine in November. Makes me wonder what the basic warranty period is, which I'm going to have to look up now, but I know it's more than 6 months.

Many large companies send out mass mailings of these types. If you look at cost of using an already existing database ($0) and printing / mass mailing the post cards (fairly significant$) and compare it to the cash flow generated from those who respond (quite significant $ probably), it's a good business deal for Kubota and its dealers. Final revenue from this project could only be determined after you subtract out the Kubota cost for all the warranty work covered by these extended contracts....but I bet the chips would fall in their favor.

I think it would be better business acumen if they took the time to "weed" out the list and sent it to only those whose warranty is actually running out soon, and took the time to explain briefly what is included and how much it cost initially and how much it would cost to extend. But, like any company in today's economy, they are after the biggest bang for the littlest buck.

I never buy an extended warranty and to date I have never needed one, in the long run I believe they are a waste of money; buy quality and you don't have to worry about such things.

And your dealer did not tell you this when you bought it?????? This is basic stuff here
