Foggy,
On mine the center pillow block / shaft support is loose and the shafts can move up and down. I'm assuming that this movement is wrong is that correct.
I wonder if I should put a sealed bearing in there?
Mine seem to fit fine without any bearing (to my knowledge). I cannot recall any excessive slop in this fit....but I cannot recall ever questioning my set-up. It just seemed to fall in place. I did have a bit of a concern about that shaft collar.....but I figured a little extra grease would solve the precise fit.
From my point of view.....most of the allignment is done at the outboard hub. The center bearing support is just to keep alignment by providing some support to the shaft. A little slop wouldnt be a big deal to me (say 20-40 thou?)....but I would be more concerned with 1/16" or more.
I do think they made allot of variations in these spreaders.....so you may have an earlier or later version than mine. I think you will find a resolution.
I would not think a sealed bearing is necessary.....how much slop do you have?
