The torque converter in this truck is called a clutch... *grin* I looked up a bearing kit, can be found on ebay for $280-$300, if thats all it takes. Phone calls tomorrow to someone who rebuilds these ZF6 manuals is in order.

And hope my deal on the other 6spd crew cab goes thru!

Well, no luck on getting the other truck...

I talked to another guy about my trans issues today, who echoed what the first guy said... drain the fluid, filter it, look for metal... removed PTO cover and look inside, and assess what you see... so that's what I did today. No metal chunks, gears visible behind the cover seem ok to me. Filled it with fluid... gonna drive it a little.

Fresh trans fluid, topped off to full... a trip to town, about 25 miles round trip. No noise I could hear over the idle rattle of the trusty ol 7.3....

Caliper didn't stick, no noise, I'm gonna take the chance and take it to work tonight... 27 miles one way, 20 of it 60 MPH highway speeds. Fingers crossed, positive thoughts please!

Son's Mazda3 5speed leaks tranny fluid, he didn't know it and ran it down to nothing until he heard a nasty bearing noise. Filled it back up and after a bit of driving the noise went away. Still hasn't done anything to the tranny although he bought a used one just in case, that was over a year ago. Hopefully yours will be fine.

I made a stop just before I got to work, heard the input shaft 'whirrrrrr' noise I heard before, but after being shut down for 10 minutes, it wasn't there when I came back and started it up again, or the next stop or at work, total 3 miles from first stop.

I plan to drain and change in fresh fluid again soon, to help flush out any metal particals. Hoping for the best.

Two trips to work and back, and a little over 100 miles on the truck now... found that intercooler boot I forgot to tighten up on my way to work last night, as I rolled into the throttle more than I had to that point... boost easily built to 20 psi, and "boof-whoosh", I've heard that sound before, better pull over. Now we all know why I carry a 4" Cresent wrench as my key chain. Few minutes and back on the road. GPS speedometer app on my phone tells me I'm off about 9%, so 55 MPH is really about 63 MPH. Good info to know...

Input shaft noise comes and goes, noticeable after driving 60 MPH for 20+ miles, but if any slow speed driving is done, it isn't really noticeable, as it must cool down and quiet down.

Nice to be driving it again... about ready to give it a full throttle run somewhere... after I double check all those pesky intercooler boot clamps!

As this is a bit of a project for me, as in, as I have time, a few minutes here and an hour there... just like my full ROPS/FOPS cage was.

The motor in my early '99 F250 superduty truck took a dump on me last spring. At that time, I was changing jobs money was tight, a free time was only a dream. I simply made a few minor repairs to my dually and have been driving it ever since. But with tax return money, I ordered the parts needed, and will start this project this weekend.

First up is a turbo rebuild, and oil cooler rebuild. Stay tuned for further details!
