F450 woes

I can't believe how much inconvenience you must have been through so far. I have several trucks and couldn't get by without one of them for very long.

Been there done that but you know all the stories Duke.

Glad they are getting it fixed for you Brian. I am amazed it ran as well as it did after the failure.

Wow, sorry to hear about your truck! I've never dealt with a factory rep in the auto industry, but is there a way you could get involved with them one on one? I'd be pushing pretty hard for a new engine.

I guess to be honest...I'm a Ford guy, or maybe I was. They've made it pretty tough for us guys that prefer to purchase lease turn ins and low mileage used trucks with the 6.0 and 6.4. I'm leaning Cummins for my next purchase.

Good direction to lean!

Just a little bit, you should try being a mobile equipment mechanic out of the trunk of a rental car sometime, lol.

We were hauling hay to New York on the thruway. There was a pullover and the cops were checking our trucks. Definately looking for tampered-with cats and the like.
I think the days of just inspecting brakes, dipping fuel alone are over. The big fines are in tampered pollution controls.

Glad I avoided this when I bought my Duramax -- I didn't want to buy the 6 or 6.4L engines. But I did get to buy a new computer ($2k for the repair). The new trucks (6.7, etc) were too much.
And I'll have my share of issues ahead to make up for it (ball joints, etc).
And the ugly headlights!

I would certainly have a Duramax/Allison if they made a chassis the size of an F450.

Since one of my brothers has been pulling his fifth-wheel with a 2008 F550, and I knew he'd had it in the shop a lot for emission control problems, I sent him an e-mail that he might want to see this thread. He said it was the first he'd heard of this kind of problems, but that he didn't have to worry about it anymore; said he sold that "hangar queen" to a Ford dealer friday.

Nothing like hauling your own picnic table !

Sad thing is they already made the chassis 15 years ago......3500HD!
