Re: Farmall\'s are coming back!!!

Oh yeah, I went to my CNH dealer today (sell Cub Cadets too) and they looked at me like I was crazy when I mentioned the return of Farmall. By the way, McCormicks are back too. They are actually made in an old IH plant in England (or so I hear). I only noticed like 3 dealers in the US, all in NY. /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Re: Farmall\'s are coming back!!!

Agco owns them all. When White and Minne Mo first merged they started putting the White logo on the front of the MM. Then when Agco bought them all up they started just painting the tractors different colors because some farms only ran White tractors or Oliver tractors and this was the easiest way to keep them happy. Now Allis Chalmers, White, Oliver, Minneapolis Moline, Cockshut, Massey Ferguson, Fendt, AgcoStar and now Cat as well as a few others I most likely forgot to mention are all part of AGCO's history. You can get Agco , MF or Cat tractors now. You can not get White or Agco Allis tractors anymore which made a lot of farmers upset because they still loved the White and Allis names. At least they kept MF as its own brand even though it shares platforms with the rest of the Agco line.

The JD M takes some getting use to. Climbing up from the rear of the tractor is what makes most of the old tractors so unique and interesting when you try to climb on one for the first time /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

The original Fordsons were not Compacts.

Compacts? Kinda like "full-size", etc. in describing automobiles. Changes over time. Like a "dollar". Ha. Anyway, I prefer reality, i.e. pounds, cubic inch displacement and so on. My old Farmall was 3,000 lbs more or less and about 2 liter displacement. So is my new TC40. I don't have the figures on the Fordson in front of me, but I suspect it was in that ball park. The 9n was a tad lighter (around 2,500 if memory serves). So . . . a manufacturer starts with so many pounds of steel, rubber, etc. and turns out a product. You can call it what you want. You can use it for what you want. When I use the word "compact" I am referring to something in that size range.

They were regular ag tractors for their time.

Again, you can use it for what you want. Would you call a TC35D tractor a "lawn mower" because that's what the owner did with it? Would you call a tractor a "backhoe" because that's all it was used for? Same with "ag tractor". By the way, some "compact" tractor manuals still rate their tractor as a 2-14 plowing tractor-the KUB 3710 manual certainly does. By the way, my old Farmall was also rated as a 2-14 tractor. How about that. Most current 3,000 pound tractors aren't used for "ag" pruposes. True enough. But you could certainly do so, except they wouldn't be so hot for cultivation-if you needed that. Which was my point about the "farmall", general purpose design. Functionally, the newer "compacts" would do just as good a job (probably much better) on a small farm (80 acres?) as the old 9n and certainly better than the Fordsons. One of the great things about the smaller tractors (3000 lb range M/L) is their flexibility. Heavy enough to get real work done, light enough to be easily transported and economical to run. The ulitmate power tool-I seem to recall seeing somewhere. True enough.

PS Your comment about climbing on and off (in another post) right on. Ugh. Was one thing I used to really dislike about using my old Farmall. Guess your old JD M is as bad as the IHC Farmall was.

Re: Farmall\'s are coming back!!!

Grim, Just wondering do you think Ford should rename Jaguar the new Ford/Jaguar? They have undoubtedly injected their cost saving platform sharing concept GM/Saab and all the other companys are doing. Does it constitute fraud or deception on their part? I believe it does.
I think in todays marketplace anyone that does not educate themselves on who and where and under what circumstances a 10-30,000+ dollar purchase is manufactured is a fool.
As an example; my neighbor swore his JD790 was US built until I took him out and showed him the normanclature plate, at which point he flipped his cookies. To which my responce was it is a huge plus not a minus if it had been built in the US you wouldn't be able to afford it.
I deal with electronics which is a much more sinister, where noname companies buy long standing reputable companys and pump out mass produced garbage, again relying on the name to sell junk. fraud? possibly, sleazy? absolutly, but so rampant today you have to educate yourself.

Re: Farmall\'s are coming back!!!

Ford owns Land Rover now and the Rovers are still made in England. One obvious change Ford made when they bought Land Rover was they immediately or soon discontinued the Land Rover car which was never sold in the United States.
I would like to see Ford/Land Rover bring the Defender to the states and make them available to the general public.

Sure, why not. Don't know about outright fraud, but it is certainly deceptive to those who are not aware of it. Actually, since Ford bought Jag it's hard to identify the Jag anymore. Looks too much like everything else.

Right on, right on, right on. Of course, some other posters in this thread seem to think deceiving the unwashed (ignorant) is just marketing. Me, I've always disliked fakery.

Not necessarily. Jap labor rates are pretty high. I think its the quality difference, although that doesn't have to be the case. There are good stuff manufactured in US. But the JD Yanmar's are good. Why did your friend get upset? He must be the kind of guy who believes the "marketers", the "politicians" and whomever. Again, fakery. Some would say people who don't think for themselves deserve what they get. The problem is, they drag the whole system down with them. But . . . the cycle goes one. One man, one vote will end soon.

What you planning on to replace your 580?

Re: Farmall\'s are coming back!!!

I wonder if they considered taking a new CUT and styling it (as much as possible) like a Cub? New tractor capablity with classic tractor looks. Sort of the PT Cruiser idea applied to tractors.

In post #298498 grimreaper said, "Fooling the ignorant may be good marketing."

In the interest of forum civility, it's best to let 'other posters' messages speak for themselves instead of trying to explain what you think others think.

Re: Farmall\'s are coming back!!!

Well. maybe they are coming back. But the dealers I've talked to are sort of clue less . No expected delivery dates ,etc.. It's a shame ,really. As I expect this will be one really fine machine . Personally I don't care what they call it .
But when You can't get a decent answer as to cost, delivery status ,etc ... For me at least,It's time to look elsewhere .
My reasoning.. If the dealer can't tell me about specs, and delivery dates, He'll be hopeless on service and parts .
And not through any fault of his own . It seems like a pretty poor marketing strategy at best. John
