FAS.exe ???

I will try some of these fixes and get back to you if I don't find a solution. If this is truly a "virus" or worm, I think someone would know about it. For now, I have renamed the file "FAScopy.exe" (found in documents and settings/temp folder) and rebooted. It did not come back, and there was no error message. If everything runs OK for a while, I'll do the regedit routine and then delete the .exe file.

Just be careful with the registery editor - it does'nt take kindly to any mistakes. Even an errant touch of the space bar can have undesirable effects.

Yes, I've used regedit before. Always following a specific set of instructions as in the post above, and I always feel like I'm on the Bomb Squad, and if I clip the wrong wire - KABLOOOEY!! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

OK - she didn't want me to edit the registry or delete the file, so I left that as is, and it seems to not be a problem any longer. One additional thing I changed was the AV program.

Her Dell computer came with McAfee free for 3 months, which was getting ready to expire. I removed it and downloaded AVG's free version. I ran it and it found and removed 12 viruses! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
