Dad Gummit, my wife does the same

Grandma does not always make her own mayo, but when she does, it is basically whipped oil and egg, maybe a smidgen of lemon juice.

Grandma has not gardened in a long time, but she used to have the best tomatoes in the garden!

Good Afternoon Robert,
I have to agree with you on that one ! :)

We never made our own mayo, but a fresh tomato out of the garden, and a few swabs of Real Hellmans, a sprinkle of salt, and there is nothin better ! ;)

I often get upset when Kathleen brings that Hellmans Light junk ..... home:confused: but of course she is trying to look after my health Im sure ! :)

Hey guys,

I just stumbled on this thread and let me tell you.. I loved it. I so much enjoy comparing and contrasting our life experiences. I shared a lot of the stuff and could relate.

Now it is hard to beat Jim's simple but great meal. I can literally put good olive on a piece of cardboard and make a meal out of it:D

I just love to cook and i do enjoy variety from all over the world. I kind of avoid multi legged flying and crawling stuff:eek: unless it is a matter of life and death.

Here is my quick fast food.

starting with a plate of fire roasted and peeled peppers, tomato, onions with a light dressing of balsamic vinegar and cold pressed olio on a bed of fresh basil/

Gravlox that I made with fresh salmon and dill.

All the fixings for a bagel, cream cheese and lox sandwich. My Jewish friends absolutely believe I for sure have some Jewish blood in me:D

and below is my version of red, white and blue dessert.

Thick sliced maters on wheat bread, with a dash of mayo and a dash of salt.

Instead of mayo, we use Miracle Whip, and I like to add a dash of pepper to my sandwich.

Instead of mayo, we use Miracle Whip, and I like to add a dash of pepper to my sandwich.

For lunch yesterday, I had a BOLT: Bread (toasted), Onion sliced thin, Lettuce (one thin leaf), and Tomato (three thin slices). Like Bird, I added salt, pepper and a little Miracle Whip. Some leftover stir-fried squash rounded out my lunch. No pictures; it didn't last that long.

I counted 18 baseball-sized tomatoes ripening on the window sill and a cookie sheet I sat on the floor in front of a low window. They are all orange going to red. I have all the tomatoes I can eat and plenty to give away right now.

JC: That veggie dish is a beautiful dish. Your picture sure made me want to dig in. As with your breads, you have a talent for dressing up a dish and making it look scrumptous. I just toss it on a plate and dig in, but your plates are a work of art. Nice!

I have to ask one thing about the fresh leaf basil. Do you eat that with your veggies or does it just add flavor and aroma? My fresh leaf and globe basil smells so strongly that I had not considered eating it green as whole leaves. I haven't tried it, so it might be good. Kathy dried herbs and put them into bottles. A picture is attached. I dried some cilantro and put it in a jar, but it will not be nearly as good as the fresh I use to make pico de gallo.

I don't think I ever had lox with a bagel. I'm not against trying it, but I've never really had the opportunity even though I've heard of it all my life. It's one of those things I'd never do for myself, but I'd sure love to try some.

Your desert looks sinful, but I'd have to find some fruit other than strawberries if my wife ate it. She is so allergic to strawberries that one bite or a spoonful of juice will send her to the emergency room. We have to be very careful. We buy frozen mango cubes and she eats that while I eat strawberries.:)

Jim,

I'm a bit jealous that I don't have tomatoes to boot yet (Darn deers:mad:). I've got the day off today, after breakfast I 'm going to my farm:rolleyes:. I sure hope I can have a few for dinner tonight.

We actually use fresh herbs in our food and also garnishing food with them. I make fresh herb dish with pita bread, walnuts and Bulgarian feta cheese to make bite size morsels. That is really my simplest fast food, same as your tomato and green pepper dish. i just might add a bit of red onions and cucumber. Thanks for the comment on my tomato dish. I suppose we eat and enjoy food in two different ways. It is how it tastes and then how it looks. One can grill a piece of fillet mignon to perfection, with a side of potato or wild rice, with freshly prepared asparagus and mushroom. A look at that and most of us Carnivores might salivate:D. Take the same thing and put in blender and present it as a mush and no one wants to touch it.

I mix it up all the time, below I have the same dish with the addition of some fresh mint, and heart of artichoke. Sometimes I add a bit of toasted sesame seeds as well. Roasted slivers of almond also adds a bit of good taste or pine nuts. As I'm sure you have the same, at the end of summer I have bushels of basil that I need to get rid off, I make about two gallons of "pesto sauce" and freeze it in cubes and use throughout the year.

I hope your wife is not allergic to glorious chocolate. Me, my wife and the boys can not imagine life without good dark chocolate. My #1 is 22 years old and between him and 3 others, we've had many many b-days and not once we had store bought cakes. I would have loved to offer you and your wife few slices if I were living nearby.:)

God forbids if you and your wife are chocolate intolerant then I would have offered my cream puffs. Now this is not a very low in calories or fat but we really do it dessert sparingly bur when we do we go all the way. 90% of time our desert is fruits.

Thanks Scotty,

We really eat sweets in moderation and in small quantities. I make cake like that no more than 6-8 time a year. 6 Birthdays, one for office Christmas part and one or two here an there. Ladies at work become specially friendly with me during about Christmas luncheon:D:D. My boys are all in great shape and good athletes. I hardly ever myself eat more than 2 cream puffs at most.
