FEL Counter-balance

Mike, Those are the only two things I have made with old water tanks. And yes out of the scrap metal dumpsters at the landfill. Its a great place to shop!

I had a thought today about this. I bought my loader this past winter. Prior to that I used a rear 3 point scoop for moving material. I've been trying to sell my scoop, but no interest. So I'm thinking that for those times that I'm moving loose material (dirt, gravel, ect...) mabe I can use my scoop as ballast and also to add considerably to the amount of material I can carry in one trip. I think it would work great if the scoop is filled first before the loader and then dumped last after the loader. I don't know how much a filled scoop would weigh, but I'll bet it weighs close to what my 48" loader bucket weighs when full. Scoops are fairly cheap to buy. This might be the ideal counterbalance when moving material is the job.

Aeravator looks like quite an attachment. On the "First Products" web site, I saw the animation of the unit working. looks like it will loosen the soil without destroying the turf. Do you know if a seeder/hopper attachment is available for it?

I bought wheel weights for my BX when I bought it 3 years ago. Worthless if you're talking about ballest for the FEL. I use my 72" rear blade, works fantastic. But to be honest, you better practice with it and get used to pucker factor because BX's are VERY tippy. I move a lot of stone and have had to slam the loader down more than once till I learned my lesson. Don't get me wrong, I love my BX, but the narrow wheel base makes loader work with heavy loads tough.

Actually, the BX's "wheel base" is not the issue. Wheel base is considered the distance between the two two axles.... A road grader has a large wheel base. A Ford Bronco does not.

Ah, point taken. So then I meant it has a narrow "stance". My apologies.

Tcarter1,

I am seriously considering the 40 inch aeravator for my JD2210. I am a little nervous about the weight. Looks like 575 lbs 24 inches behind the link arms. I would like to consider the optional Gandy hopper/seeder box for it but that means another 143 lbs for a total weight of 729 lbs. hmm... that is half the weight of the tractor! Maybe ok with counter balance ?? Do you use a FEL with weight in it for conter balance? How well does it handle? What are you using to spread your seed? Do you roll it in with a second pass of the aeravator?

thanks for any info
