Hi, folks,

Not sure if I should place this here or in "buying/pricing" but here goes. Can the FEL that goes with the GC2400 be used for digging? For instance, if I wanted to scrape away topsoil down to a depth of 6 to 12 inches for a path, or just for grading? If so, does anyone have experience comparing it to the Kubota 2320 with the LA304 FEL?

Thanks,

Joe

No way is a little 2400 is not going to be effective, digging with the FEL.

Loosen it up with a plow first, and then you will have no trouble removing it with the 2400 FEL.

Although its not the proper tool/attachment for the job, it can be done.It will take more time an patience. a toothbar will also make it easier to do.

it's very easy to underestimate those machines.:)

I don't think the Kubota is going to do much different. You must loosen the soil first to remove it first.

Short video and pic of what these small tractors are capable of.
85% of this was done ,using the loader.

You can do a lot of dirt work if equipped for the task the other end of the little Massey would need a box blade with rippers to loosen the soil and I would get a tooth bar. You can dig with a FEL but it is better to loosen it up a bit before scooping it up. I also do most of my earth work in the spring when the freeze thaw cycle has softened the ground for me.

Depends on the type of soil you have. With light sandy soil it's easy. With heavier clay soil I'd break it up first. If rocky I wouldn't try it with a SCUT. IMHO

The BH was for the septic tank,(yes it was able to go deep enough for a 1500 gal. concrete tank with a few tricks) leach lines, earth tubes and drainage lines. The big hole for the basement, driveway and pad leveling was all FEL.

Doug

By the way the the dirt pile from the hole is the picture to the left that the tractor is setting on.

I scraped the sod from my garden area, using just the FEL. I also used it to dig up stumps.........so I would say Yes.........it can be done from my experiences.

But with that said, I would consider getting a toothbar, for on the FEL............probably make a world of difference.

I have no experience with the Kubota 2320, but it sounds like an apple-to-oranges comparison.

I was able to remove 4-5 inches of sod and dirt with some rocks in it when I leveled out the area for my new concrete pad. Worked great. I was impressed. The backhoe is a must for extra weight and good traction.
