TractorLegend,
The whole point of these gadgets is to save money on filters by not replacing it until it is actually making the engine work for air. Replacing a filter by the way it looks is usually way before it really needs to be replaced. It should pay for itself in air filter savings.

And, BTW, they also make one for fuel filters.

What I meant was get a filterminder off a Ford Powerstroke
possibly from a wrecking yard, I would never suggest buying used filters if thats what you thunk I meant. Or used brake pads or spark plugs, etc.
But if nothing else you walk away with the knowledge of www.car-parts.com which can save you hours of thumbing thru phone books looking for any used part you may inquire about. Shipped to your door. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

And theres two sides of the fence to dirty air filters---a partially plugged one doesnt flow as many cfm of clean air. And the manufacturer makes the filtering ability of the medium they specify to a certian spec when it's new so I'm personally not totally sold or the "dirtier the better" idea. And as someone pointed out humidity also plays a factor.

I do have one on my powerstroke. But the dashmount one got my attention and I got plenty of dash to mount it on /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I'm in the process of trying to install one on my L3000DT Kubota. It looks like there is a boss on the air cleaner housing elbow that may have been put there just for this purpose.

The Bobcat Toolcat comes with one of these Filter Minders standard for the air filter. The outerfilter gets replaced everytime indicated and the inner filter gets replaced every third outer filter, if my memory serves me correctly. I also plan on getting one for my vehicles! Thanks for the post and the link.

My 2120 has one in the dash cluster, but I don't know if it measures air restriction or what. Anyone know? Thanks, Jim

That's it exactly. It measures the suction required to breathe through the filter. So lower #s = better.
(I think they are using a water column to measure with, not a mercury
column)
Example:
With new filter: around 8" - 12" to breathe through a new, stock filter
as filter clogs - up to 20"
And replace filter at 25"+.

Clear as mud, right? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
