I lost chunk of my left pinkie to a jointer, don't ask my why or how I sure don't know why I touched the blade drum. I still have half of the nail left:)

ER put some kind of direct to wound fabric on it and that was a mistake. It got hard and I had to actually make hole in it to let those helaing body fluids come out for the finger to stop hurting.

Did not hurt right away, but when the pain killer from ER run out, it was hard to sleep without some serious dope.

This finger plus the kerf I cut in the bone of my left index finger sure hurts when hunting in winter - both are quite sensitive to cold.

I don't remember losing mine. But, I lost the tip of my left ring finger to a chain and sprocket when I was 18 months old. Came out fairly normal, but I call it stumpy now.

Im not a stumpy but i have heck with the guys at work pointing stuff out. I was 14 making some shelves to hold welding supplies in the old shop behind the house. Mom was almost out of nursing school and dad was watching boxing. I was cutting some discarded plywood. I didnt know there was a drill bit tip in the plywood. When the saw hit it it kicked back and caught my left pointer finger at the last joint and cut most of it out. When mom saw it she almost crapped a squealing worm. Dad told her the hush boxing was on then he saw it and I was chunked into the back of a Dodge K Car and rushed to the hospital. My finger was put back on crooked.

I had a pipe worker get his finger in a 20 foot joint of 4 inch ductile iron pipe. He was holding the pipe up while an excavator was aboutto bell it up. He was holding it steady with one hand and then motioned the operator to bell it up. When they did his index finger was jammed in there between the rubber seal on the female bell and the steel male pipe. It didnt cut his finger off but compressed it so much that the muscle shot out the sides of it. That caused me to almost pass out.

I was lubing a motorcycle chain many years ago, and turning the wheel, as I applied the lube, I rolled my index finger into the chain and sprocket. Punched a hole like a crimp on a wire terminal. I then had to roll the wheel backwards to remove my finger. Then it started to gush blood. After x-ray, found out it had chipped the bone. Hurt like he**. It healed up normally.

The same finger had been trimmed by a jointer, in my younger years, after we removed the safety guard to do production work. I was trying to keep the table clean, and swiped my finger across the jointer knives to remove the wood chips. That finger is more pointed than rounded . Safety guards are there for a reason, use them.

I don't imagine that the guy it happened to was all that thrilled about it either...:D

Thanks for posting. I have had a recent experience. So recent in fact, I can barely type right now. I will post some questions for as soon as I have some time. PS. Mine is the same location, opposite hand.
