First real day on new BX25D... need encouragement!

A small piece of advice, from experience. If you do load your tires - use something other than calcium chloride. My previous tractor had CaCl and it would eat the valve core out ANNUALLY. Fun is digging out the degraded valve core, cleaning the threads inside the stem and installing a new core. My new tractor is loaded with rimguard. The added weight from loaded tires or 3 pt ballast box or wheel weights will help with the tractors stability.

Oosik, good to know on the filling... thanks. Now I have to ask as a long time Washingtonian... where the heck is Amber? By Cheney? What is the population?

Hey Stokes, I am right down the road from you on Olalla Valley, just before you get to the ball park on the left, place just logged off last year. Turf tires won't help me any. My BX 25 tires are 26 X 12 rear & 18 X 8.5 front, that's factory spec. Maybe the turfs are smaller dia. I wish for AG tread to get better traction. If I find some AGs that fit I may be interested in the wheels. I use a riding mower for the lawns. The bolts look like the right spacing. I just met Dragon for lunch today. Come on down for coffee, it's always on in the morning. We can make a threesome some day for lunch. My owners manual lists a AG/Bar tire but the dealers say there is no such thing. The Parts Manual does not have AGs either.

Ron

I looked up BX Operator's Manual and for options it lists 26 X 12 rear & 18 X 8.5 front for Turf tires same as for Bar or Industrial tread. So I don't know if appropriate especially with MMM because of a lower profile and might cause some issues. Who knows, this could be a good thing for me (lower COG) as I will undoubtedly be having to mow on some slope.

Dragoneggs,
Last time I checked the population of Amber was still two. Amber was a thriving community about 60 years ago. And yes, I live about 15 miles SW of Cheney. Right in the middle of the area called the Scabrock. The name - Scabrock - is very correct. About a third of my property has basaltic lava exposed or within a foot of the surface. Makes for good building foundations and that's about it.

I think those wheels/ tires were meant for a BX1500 They used the smaller size. The later BX series tractors use a 10" diameter front rim. The 8" rim won't clear the bevel gear housing on the later models.

Thanks BXpanded... that is exactly the advice I was hoping for. BTW... tracking in the mail my new Piranha tooth bar from you guys. I have to wait until Tuesday!

Or a newer BX1850, BX1860 or BX1870. Pretty sure those fronts and rears are exactly what the 18hp BX's came/come with. Had both a BX1850 and 1860 before I traded up to a BX25. So, there should be some interest in them, though shipping would be difficult. By the way, love the views of that lake, or is it a salt water sound?

You do have a beautiful view and I noticed you have some garden boxes going? We started our first "square foot gardening" boxes this year.

When I first got my BX2230D, I felt like an idiot using the front loader. Not having a lot of experience running anything with hydraulic controls, I found it very frustrating for a while. You can read all kinds of advice here, most of it sound, but I found the best way to learn how to use the FEL, is to practice on something non critical, like moving a pile of dirt or gravel. Watching videos on U-Tube is also a good way to see the best way to take a bite out of a pile with the small FEL bucket. I kept thinking my FEL was under powered and was about to get a pressure tester and a shim kit to bump the pressure up. However I was reading a thread here and it described how to do it correctly. I then found some video showing how big loaders do it and went home and practiced until I had the technique down pat. Now I can scoop up a full bucket of material easily. When I get a BH I will have to go through a similar learning experience.

When you get your Piranha tooth bar post up your observations of how it works. I want a tooth bar but can't make up my mind on which to get, the Piranha or one like the WR Long.

Dragoneggs, great place you have there. Congrats on the BX and a good call on the Piranha tooth bar. This bar works well with the BX and I am sure you will love it. I remember you mentioning the pile of trees you need to get rid of. The thumb on your hoe will come in handy plucking trees out of the pile and holing them while you saw them if you choose to go about it that way.

Great little tractor for all your projects and it looks like you will be busy for quite a while. Enjoy! Keep us posted with progress pictures.

If I'm not mistaken, the 8" front wheel won't fit any 50, 60, or 70 series. The bevel gear/ axle housing is different than the 00 , 30 series.
