OK ladies & gentlemen:

I need a set of scales to weigh produce with. I think this will help me distribute the food from the garden as fairly as possible.

Do any of you have a set of produce scales I could trade you out of?

Any suggestions that will work better than scales?

Jim,
If you are not selling your produce you can use a set of baby scales. I see them at garage sales on occasion. Next choice would to go to Ebay and do a search. If you spend the time searching on Ebay you will eventually find what you want at a price that is okay.
If you want to weigh heavier things you can get a set of grain scales. If you live in an agricultural area they show up at garage sales once in a while. I picked up a Fairbanks Morris 1000 pound set at an Amish garage sale last year for $25. It was in very good condition too.
If you are really hurting you can make a scale if you have known weight and a small teeter totter (not sure of the spelling). Put the known weight on one end and the produce you want to distribute on the other and you will have an approximate weight. Fish weighing scales will work too, the kind carried in tackle boxes.
Good luck.

I will probably be selling some produce to help pay the expenses of the fuel and fertilizer. So I will need a set of scales that meet the requirements of the laws. Atleast this year until I get established a little better. Unfortunately the upkeep of my equipment is expensive and I need a few more attachments for the tractor. If the garden does as well as expected... I should have enough to feed the hungry and sell some. The Hungry will come First of course.

They are installing the well pump & tanks today. I will start installing the irrigation system tomorrow. There is one thing I will need. I need atleast a 9 inch post hole digger for my tractor to dig 32 to 35 holes. Does anyone have a set of 3 point hitch post hole digger they would loan me for a few days? The holes will need to be about 30 inches deep because there will be gravel at each post for the automatic drains to drain the heads when not in use. This should prevent the heads from freezing during the winter.

Email me or call me if you can help out with the loan of the digger.

I am trying to get a company to loan us a walk behind trencher for Thursday thru Monday so I can use it to trench 2,800 feet of line for the irrigation system. Hopefully it will be in full operation by mid week next week if all goes well.

Ok Ladies & Gentlemen:

Here's an Update:

When they installed the pump... it ran for about ten minutes and quit pumping. It took them a couple of days to come back to fix the problem. Come to find out two pieces of 2 inch pipe came apart at the bell (where they join) and it was pumping water to that point back into the well. We almost lost the pump bringing the pipe out. The strong electrical cable was the only thing that held on to pump. That saved them $3,500 for having to replace the pump.

Finally we have water now but we have been delayed with installing the irrigation system. I will post some pictures later of the new sprinklers we purchased to use until we can get the system installed.

I finished planting the garden area yesterday on my wife's and my wedding anniversary. We have been married 28 years on May 6th. We dated 4 years before making the plunge into marriage.

The last three rows were planted yesterday and contain the following:

27 California Bell Pepper Plants

31 Jalepeno Hot Pepper Plants

36 Black Beauty Egg Plants

100 feet of Super Sweet Butterfruit Bi-Color Corn

Seems we had to replant 240 feet of Corn where it got covered or damaged by the two inches of rain we had in 20 minutes the other day.

Now the easy part is over and the weeding begins /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Talk with you all soon.
