Ok all you grass mower guys out there ! I have another question on which is better for Very tall pasture grass ! 3 & 1/2 foot high . Will my new flail mower cut it down or would a rear mower work better ? I know what your thinking !!! So go try your Flail mower and find out !!! I would like to do that ,but I ran my foot through a ladder and then fell off /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif, so Momma and the Doc say "No Way" you get on a tractor for about 9 more weeks until the ankle starts to mend /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif! If I need a rear mower I can start looking around now since Momma hid the tractor keys . I would appricate your input . Oh! and how hard is it to hot wire a tractor ? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

At 3 ½ foot you should be bailing it… that is too much to cut and leave laying over the grass.
Your flail will mulch it better but it is going to be very s l o w going as that is a lot of hay to process. A rear shredder will cut much faster BUT you are going to have large windrows of grass.
You should see if anyone in your neighborhood could use it for feed, they could swath and bail it… remove it and then you could follow up with your flail to finish cut it. KennyV.

A couple of things to consider are: what is your PTO hp? Is your flail mower light duty, medium duty, or heavy duty? Light duty has knife blades which cut and is a finish mower. Heavy duty has hammer blades which break heavy vegitation and gives a rough cut. If you have enough PTO hp, the Woods RM990 is a RFM which has stump jumper type heavy pivoting spindle blades and could be a good choice. I agree with Kenny though. Have someone bail it for you and make some $ while you do nothing but watch.
