Got some new parts in the mail.

Also got the radiator cleaned and painted. Used some foaming hvac condenser cleaner that worked good.

image.jpeg

I will be wrestling with the tires for the rest of the day.

Got the tires pulled, but not dismounted yet. The fronts should be easy, the rears have me a bit concerned...lol. They are loaded, so I'm trying to get all that junk out at the moment.

image.jpeg

Found a nice crack on the front frame. Both sides are about halfway cracked through just in front of the front axle.

image.jpeg

Stay tuned for the dismounting and rim painting.

Wow cracked in front of the axle. Better there than behind, should be a easy fix. Great job fixing it up. Should give decades of use when you are done.

Moving along on the tires. Got the front tires off pretty easy. Some rust, but not bad.

image.jpeg

The rear tires were another story. I can't break the bead. Going to take them to a tire shop. Also found some pretty bad corrosion around the valve stem. Might have to find a new rim. A quick search isn't revealing anything either.

image.jpeg

So now what? Repair this rim or find a new one?

Kind of quiet on this forum.

Put a call in to a salvage yard in Kentucky about a rim, waiting to hear back. NH want $265 for a new one.

Got the electrical mostly removed today.

image.jpeg

Also got the fenders pulled as well as the lights.

image.jpeg

A problem I had on both fenders was one of the mounts was broke off flush in the frame. The same mount on both sides. Going to try and weld it in as opposed to drilling and tapping it out and buying new mounts.

image.jpeg

Going to head back out and drain the fuel tank and pull it.

Fuel tank and tank support removed.

This is how she sits tonight. I have lots of repairs, adjustments, and modifications to make still, but this is as far as the tear down will go before paint.

image.jpeg

Next is the cleaning process, then rust de-scaling.

Got the tire off, what a battle that was.

I first used a hook blade in a utility knife to cut around the base of the bead on the side of the tire on both sides. I was then able to remove the tread portion and the tube. The tube was rusted to the rim in parts and along the bead.

image.jpeg

I was then able to get at the backside of the bead to clean it up with a wire grinder and give it a smooth surface to slide over. The bead was totally rusted to the rim, so from the backside I ran a utility knife between the bead and the rim. I then shot lots of wd40 in the there for lube and slowly worked each side off the rim. It was a chore and it took about an hour total from beginning to end.

image.jpeg

Lots of corrosion on the rim, will be wire wheeling it off next. These were replacement rims at some point in the tractors life. Still had the shipping label and everything stuck to the rim on the inside.

image.jpeg

Will be ordering a used rim from Kentucky for $185 shipped. Way too much money, but my only option at this point. I pondered repairing the other one, but my welding skills aren't the greatest.

A bit more done today.

Pulled the alternator because I didn't want to get it wet while degreasing the tractor. I was going to use a power washer, but decided a garden hose, engine brite, and a scrub brush would be less intrusive.

image.jpeg

Got lots of small bits wire wheeled down, cleaned and painted today.

image.jpeg

image.jpeg

Wire wheeled the muffler down and revealed a large hole in it. Will probably just JB weld it or something since these mufflers are very expensive.

image.jpeg

Tomorrow I hope to get some welding done.

Nice job bringing it back to life. I've had a 1210 for years and love it.

A few years ago I parted out a 2wd hydro 1210. Mine is a geared 4wd so I have a bunch of odds and ends left over. If you come across something you need let me know. I'll never use the stuff and will make you a good deal. I did use the wheels though. That was the main reason I bought it so I could have a set of turf tires / wheels to go with my R1's.
