A few words about mice abatement. My tractor had a huge mouse nest in the hydro stat linkage bay which caused lots of damage. I'm not certain, but I believe they may have made their way into the hydro pump/clutch bay via the control rod opening in the first bay. I have a bore scope somewhere so I may take a look. If there is indeed a nest in there I will be looking at splitting the tractor, as there is no way to remove the nesting material without doing so.
Here is the first avenue the critters used to access the linkage bay. It is the opening for the friction control lever.
They can also access this same bay via the opening under the steering box at the base of the steering assy. There are openings around the entire circumference, here are two of them.
There is also an access point into the hyd pump/clutch bay via the linkage bay, and also the area on top where the lines enter the bay. Here is a pic.
Around the pipes they do provide a thick piece of rubber to close up the opening. Mine was flopping around loose on there though and wasn't preventing mice or water from getting in as evidence of the corrosion on top of the pump. Here is the rubber piece.
Bottom line. For everyone that owns one of these tractors or similar models I would take a hard look at your linkage bay and pump bay for rodent activity. I plan on using screening and silicone to seal up any holes I can find. I will use a small boot around the friction lever handle.
