Bird--Thanks for the information on the computer.
Getting back to the front gearcase. I put a shallow pan under the front gearbox and pulled the plug. Was very glad to see oil out. Don't know how it got there, but there it was. About that dipstick, about the only way you can use it is to let the oil get dirty.

Bud - I was glad too when oil dripped out of mine - you had me second guessing myself!
Bird - on your 2710 is there also only one spot to add the hydro fluid, behind and below the seat?
It is great how we all learn something from somebody elses questions - Bird and I BOTH noted that our tractors did not take the full amount of UDT that the book said it should when we did our 50 hour service - now we know that it is because we forgot a drain plug. Won't happen again, and may save somebody else from doing it wrong in the first place.

Oh no, you don't want the oil to get dirty. You just put on your readin' glasses, make sure you're in bright sunlight, and . . . it's still hard see the oil on that little yellow plastic stick./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Yep, PaulB, I'm afraid that probably accounted for the fact that they didn't hold the specified quantity, and since my B7100 didn't hold its specified quantity either, I'm guessing now that I missed something on that one, too./w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif And yes, one fill plug behind the seat and a dipstick in front of the seat.

PaulB & Bird,

Does Kubota, B series, recommend draining the rear fluids at 50 hours or were you guys just feeling better about changing it this early? On my TC18 it only required changing the filters and since those who made it said that this was proper maintenance, that's just what I did. My engine oil, the sales guy said, was break-in oil - it was changed with the filter, which of course was recommended.

Since you now know that your new fluid was contaminated with old fluid that you didn't drain, are you going to drain it all again? Just being curious about you Orange guys! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Also, I'm still going to answer sometime about the Hour meter differences....so beware! /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

JimBinMi, are you sure you read the manual for that little blue machine?/w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif My cousin's TC29 said to change the hydraulic oil at 50 hours, just like the Kubota manual does. Only instead of having one filter to change, and strainers to clean, his has two filters to change. And since I cleaned the strainers and changed the filter and hydraulic oil, I'm not too concerned about the small amount of "old" oil that I missed (regret it, but not concerned about it/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif). I'll just wait until the next regularly scheduled change and try to remember to pull all the drain plugs next time.

If it was blue I would tell Bird to shut it down and change it again. But its orange and it surely can take it without a doubt. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Just like Bird I am going to leave the present oil in, but I think I will change it all again at 200 hours (Kubota says 300) just to be safe. Next time I will for sure pull all the drain plugs. Manual does indeed say change at 50 hours, then every 300.

I just knew you were an astute mechanic, Gordon. Good diagnosis./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Read your manual again. Mine says to change hydraulic oil filter at 50 and then at 300 then at 600, etc.
Change Hydraulic Fluid at 50 then at 600, then at 1200, etc.

My manual never says to include the 50 hour change in the later change intervals. They are very consistent in this including engine oil.
