Fuel gelling?

If you have some kerosene, I'd mix anywhere from 30 to 50% kero in with the diesel. This was the thing Vermonters did before diesel additives became widely available.

Freezing temperatures are not the norm where I live but this winter we saw several days in the mid 20's. I have a couple of questions. Even though the tractor sits in a non-heated shed, do you think it got cold enough to gel the fuel in my tractor? Once fuel gels because of extreme cold, does it reconsitute itself when it returns to normal above freezing temperatures or is this fuel no longer good to use?

To answer your questions, to the best of my knowledge..

From what I read online untreated fuel (by you or the terminal) can start to gel below around 40 degrees..

quoted from Diesel Fuel Characteristics and use

"Also, since sulfur was removed the pour point of diesel fuel was raised about! 20 degrees F. This means that the pur point of #2 fuel 3 years ago was 20 degrees F. Today it is now 40 degrees F."

Once warmed up, the fuel will go back to normal - BUT you have to worry about fuel somewhere in the line that may still be gelled..

I have my summer fuel stored in 2 purple jugs out in the barn, and a 1/2 tank in the tractor. Can i bring those jugs into my heated garage, let them warn up and add some additive?
Would that help? Now if the fuel gells once, and you warm it up, is it still ok to use?
Thanks.

Tollster - Yes, you can add a anti-gel additive to your summer fuel and use it in the winter. Yes, once it has gelled you can still use it after the wax crystals reliquify.

All 3 of my tractors are full of summer blend treated with .58 ounces per gallon of PS in the white bottle.
Do you think this will protect them against Fuel gelling?

I sure hope so. I am not a diesel expert, and here in ny we are expecting a cold snap to come up this week in the minus readings soon. Good thing its not gonna snow this week, but I plan keep a eye on my tractor fuel for gelling. I have treated the diesel with power service as well and it better do its job! :D I expect to see more posts about gelling this week due to a cold snap coming in the northeast.
