I was studying the manual on my tractor when I looked at the specification page more closely. It lists the fluid quantities in Gallons...then beside it there are quarts listed. But the numbers didn't make sense. So it finally dawned on me that they just divided the gallons by 4 even the air cleaner oil at .19 to .05 :)

Wow.. that is ODD..
somebody could get themselves in a lot of trouble following that chart.. Less than 1/2 qt. of oil to fill.???
My 10hp generator takes more than that. lol

Hang on a tick... Why would they even list quarts? AND, for whatever the reason, why did they divide by 4; shouldn't they have multiplied by 4 to give the total in quarts?

Mind you, with that manual, I'd suspect the "US Gallon" as India would've used the Imperial Gallon in their pre-metric days. (the Imperial Gallon is larger)

Or used metric volume and let people that wanted to convert do that themselves, to any gallon they might like. ;)

One Imperial gallon = four quarts

One quart = two pints

one imperial pint = twenty fluid ounces

The column headings are flipped. This doesn't speak highly of its proofreaders.

That doesn't make sense either. That would mean the fuel tank is only 3.63 gallons? I have not been impressed by my Korean TYM Mahindra manual either. Manuals are certainly a place they could use A LOT of improvement.

Good point.

They won't use money on it, translate technical manuals without any technical knowledge is very common, probably a poor chap sitting in his flat doing it for no money.

Honestly - I look at that chart and can't figure out what in the world is going on. Reverse the headings - still makes no sense. Doesn't instill a lot of confidence in any of their specs.

Be prepared on the first major service to make some detailed measurements and record results.

Use the dipsticks... problem solved

You can also find better updated info online about capacities

This doesn't speak highly of its proofreaders.

The book was probably written in Hindu first, sent to China to be interpreted, and then "proof-read" in Mexico, before sending off to Ethiopia for final set up and printing... :confused2:

Well I can say I downloaded it from Mahindra using my serial number. Overall the rest of the manual seems pretty good. The language is in proper English unlike some other manuals(Kioti) I have had. Many Indians are very educated and read/write English very well. It does say at the bottom of the page that 4 US quarts equals 1 US gallon. And I do believe they have got the right amounts in the gallon list but someone just divided them by 4 for quarts, So that list is useless if not humorous.

There are multiple languages in India. Back in the day, many Indian graduate students in my department had to communicate with each other in English -- they didn't understand the others' native languages.
