I've only seen one grundhog in my life. I was in the Marine Corps at Quantico VA, standing in formation for the flag raising, and a ground hog walked out of the plants. Not what I expected, so I'm sure that's why the memory is burned into my skull.

Thanks,
Eddie

Groundhogs are very common around Northern Indiana. We have several dozen in our neighborhood, alone.

What are your most common small mammals down there?

Up here I'd have to guess at squirrels, rabbits and groundhogs, in that order, although the raccoons and feral house cats are pretty thick, too.

Eddie,

This showed up in the news this weekend. Thought you'd like it. (The boy used a .50-cal revolver. This is another reason it's good to have a BH, haul off your new Hogzilla. :D )

In this photo released by Melynne Stone, Jamison Stone, 11, poses with a wild pig he killed near Delta, Ala., May 3, 2007. Stone's father says the hog weighed a staggering 1,051 pounds and measured 9-feet-4 from the tip of its snout to the base of its tail. If claims of the animal's size are true, it would be larger than ``Hogzilla,'' the huge hog killed in Georgia in 2004. (AP Photo/Melynne Stone)

That sure is an amazing animal. I'd love to learn the facts behind it, but I'm pretty sure it was raised in a pen and force fed massive amounts of feed to make him grow as fast as possible.

I have no proof, but from what I know about hogs, hunting and what's been said in the story, I'm pretty sure this is the case.

We've been getting allot of rain lately and temps are below normal, which has increased our hog and deer activity lately.

The deer really suprised us as we've never seen anything like this before.

The hogs at last light are allot of fun. We didn't shoot any of them because we want to try and get Steph's brother over here so he can get his first one. We joke about a curse that he has with them. Last year we had hogs out there every evening for three weeks, but the day he shows up, they disapeared for a week. Then slowly started coming back, then disapeared again for several months when the acorns were on the ground.

The game cam pics really give you an idea of how many hogs there are and how different they look.

Eddie

I think you're correct about Hogzilla's diet. Of course, the "Walker Plantation" could probably grow a few of those too, just like the Lost Creek Plantation did. 2,500 acres is quite a spead for a hunting paradise. You're getting quite a collection yourself. Nice pics. Thanks

Looks like they just opened up for the public this past January. (Hey, it's run by an Eddie too. :D ok "Eddy")

Had a thrilling experience this morning. Our little dog, Junebug, was barking like crazy. My wife went out to see what the ruckus was. She called me urgently to come out. I figured Junebug had cornered an armadillo. But no! It was this young doe, not 35-40 yards from the front porch.

It was not afraid of the dog. She was barking and we were calling her, but it made little difference to the doe. Finally, the doe ran off aways, but came back soon after we got the dog inside.

Other family members have seen deer on our place, but this was the first my wife and I have seen. Just had to share.

Mike

I just took these pictures at 7:30 pm. They have been coming around just about every evening, but we're not in the mood for shooting anything right now. Too much mud and we still have some meat in the freezer, plus it's just fun to see them.

At one point, there was 17 of them, but they keep moving around, chasing each other, fighting and playing. I think the most I have in one picture was a dozen or so.

Eddie, that's a great shot of those hogs. I'm amazed everytime I see all the hogs you have just at your place, considering that there are probably many more you never see. I am also thinking about when you get a park full of campers and they leave food or garbage out at night. Won't those hogs be a problem? Do you think they will eventually lose their fear of people and come right into the park at night?

You may have a plan for all this, but I don't remember reading what your plans are. I know you'll come up with something.:)
