When I read your gas prices, the only thing I think about is SCAM! There is a pipeline running from Illinois to Michigan that burst last week and spilled around 100,000 gallons I believe...they said that could have an affect on prices. I think gas station owners see this as an opportunity to get rich quick! /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

Unleaded (87 octane) is $1.46 to $1.53 in the Birmingham, AL area. There is an extra tax here for pollution.
Off-road (dyed, tax exempt) #2 diesel is $.99 to $1.01. If I have it delivered, 55 gallons, it is $.30 a gallon more. How does the $ of #2 compare?

$50 worth of gas reminds me of when I was up in New England in Oct. '91 and stopped to fill up (can't remember just where) and the pump just stopped at $50 and wouldn't pump any more. I finally went inside to see what the problem was and they had limited their pumps that way on purpose, so I paid the $50 and left (sure wasn't going to start over just to give them the business). The motorhome had a 90 gallon tank and would have held another 20+ gallons (price was over $1 a gallon even then). That was the only time I ever encountered that situation.

1.61 for unleaded regular and 1.59 for diesel in Syracuse NY. Too high..........

I knew about the pipeline but not that it was 30%, wow!
Also heard today that one of the areas distribution centers shut down and that too was driving up prices.

At 9:00 a.m. this morning, prices at 11 Mile Rd. at I-94 were from $1.999 at one station to $2.099 at another, by 2:00 p.m. they were all at $1.999, miracle! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Have to amend my last post and up the price. Filled up today and paid $1.44 for regular. Same station last week was $1.37. Makes me remember college days (1971) when a local gas war had prices at .25 per gal most of the year. Don't think I will see that again./w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

My company does a lot of business in the petroleum markets. I was at a refinery in Brazil last month dealing with a hardware problem when the true significance of distribution systems sunk in. The pumps I was working on constituted the first pumping station for a pipeline that moves gasoline, diesel, LPG, etc. about 600 miles. It was explained to me that before the pipeline started up 2 years ago, these products were distributed by 3000 rail cars and tanker trucks. Now the pipeline starts and all these cars and trucks go elsewhere. Well, I learned why I was told to get my butt down there and fix the problem! Pipelines can't shut down for long w/o impacting the consumer because the stockpiles probably aren't where the consumer can access them. Now, I'm the consumer and I want that Illinois to Michigan pipeline fixed NOW!

Price of regular unleaded in Erie,Pa. is ~1.56/gal. I usually fill my truck on the way to my camp on the indian reservation in Salamanca,Ny. It's about 1.37 there and I fill up on the way and again on the way home.
