So now it's running fine?
If it happens again and you have eliminated the alt and water pump, I would check the starter.
It could be that the starter is not retracting intermittently.
If so, easy fix at no cost.

well I went out and started it the next day and it just started fine. I didn't take it for a test ride yet, I was waiting to hear from the dealer first. how do I eliminate the alt and water pump?

GC1715 owner here. I just went out and checked my fan. It does squeak just like yours when I move it fast, but if I move it slowly, the belt moves with it and turns the alternator.

Add me to the list, when the belt is driving the fan there is no apparent squeak, but when you use the fan pulley to move the belt, there is some slip resulting in the squeak. I would bet against the alternator bearing before the water pump, so please only remove one from the equation if you can.

hey guys well the next day it just started right up. no levers where moved at all. no hoses where touched. I called the dealer i bought it from and im kinda pissed because whoever i talked with in service was ignorant. I asked for him to check the forum here just so he can see the video. I am not close to the dealer and told him they would need to come pic up the unit as cant move. because i was not local he started right away to give me excuses on what Massey pays for and what it doesnt when it comes to pricing up units under warranty. I understand all of this. He flat out just was ignorant saying that all of us are yuppies and have no idea what where doing on the internet and not to take anyone advice on whats going on. I am tho very concerned on what long term problem this is going to do for me. The service advisor flat out said he doenst need to see the video. Actions like this is what pisses me off.

This dealer BS is similar to the crap I get from my dealer and agco. They talk a good talk to get your money and if there a problem the won't stand behind the tractor or the repairs. It always yeah I can get you going, you don't know what you're talking about, and it will cost XXX amount of dollars. Agco/Massey Ferguson customer service is no service, just a big money grab.

Can any of yaa do me a favor. Whoever owns a gc1700 series or even a sub compact tractor. Can you guys spin your fan manually and tell me if it makes some noise like mine did in the second video please. Its also very easy and free to create a youtube account if you want to post a video also.

Yep. I still think a pto was engaged or similar jamming of a blade etc. as it looked like a belt was burning and was immediate at starting. (smoke color and location of smoke not from exhaust and sound shown on video clip).

That would be interesting since I don't think the starter will engage without the HST & PTO being in neutral (and perhaps even the 540/2000 levers; never tried).

nothing was engaged pto wise front or rear AND THE BELT WAS NOT BURNING AT ALL. all the smoke was coming from the exhaust.
