That's why a bought a Chevy dually, because the Allison 6 speed tranny was a copy of the Dodge automatic and the v comfiguration Duramax is a twin to the inline 6 Cummins. The other thing I liked is that my IFS is just like the solid front axle on the Dodge trucks.

Now if only my Chevy sat a foot higher like the Dodge so I'd need a step ladder to clean the snow from the windshield.

Were you at all serious with this??

They do both use the same rearend from American axle, except Gm has a drain plug and Dodge does not.
I don't own a pickup so I'm not too concerned with which big 3 is better than the other, I just know my Pete will put em all to shame in the pulling department

WHAT A JOKE !! The only value item Dodge has is a cummings diesel... which they had no part in designing. Dodge had a cab and one half truck years ago that never sold ( along with ford ). When GM introduced it with the new design Dodge copied it back in 94 . They are not known for designing, just copying what is popular. Todays paper has 1/2 ton dodges at 12k off retail, still trying to sell the left over 06s. And don't insult Allison by calling it a copy of a Chrysler design. Dodge transmissions by no means are bullet proof. GM definately doesn't need a dodge in their garage.

The only value item for Dodge is the Cummins? How about Jeep. And the Hemi branding. And the Challenger coming out before a lagging new Camaro(both late in reality, to the Mustang). The Chrysler line has definitely come out with some decent designs, like the 300, the Ram(consider they had a really poor truck line before), the Viper, the new Jeeps...

What has GM come out with?

All the manufactuers copy each other, leap frogging along, and not just the "Big-3".

Right now, GM is not so hot, and having too many of it's own problems. Ot is only a step ahead of Chrysler, in that GM is wholly owned, not a subsidiary.

And all, is going down in flames against Toyota.

Ford and GM are also involved in a cooperative venture with automatic transmissions. The 5 & 6 speed AT's, first in the Ford products, following in the GM's now, are a result of this venture. Excluded are the Allison, of course, and the Ford TorqShift transmissions.

It ain't a new motor, it is just an advertising gimick for the hemispirical shape of a combustion chamber. That part of it might make the gas burn a little different, but has nothing to do with how long the engine is going to last under rough conditions.
I have never had a motor NOT going close to 200,000 miles, but a good friend is nursing a gas "HEMI", trying to keep the rods inside till he can find either a replacement motor or the funds to buy another truck. His odometer read 130,000 last time I looked, and he never hauls anything in it. He does have a lead foot, but I figured the tranny would give out first under those conditions.

The current Hemi is a new generation motor. The "Hemi" head itself is not new; it goes back decades. And, it is not unique now. The new "Hemi" certianly is not like the old Hemi-426, in power or production. The original Hemi was made in relatively low numbers, in limited production version of cars. The new one is just another mass production motor.

I've seen both sides. My last truck was an F250. That things was in excellent shape when I sold it at a little over 225k miles. The 351 ran like a top, didn't smoke, use oil etc. Knew people with similar trucks; worn out and broken by 125k miles. Or, my Grandparents buying a new Cougar some years back; Ford/Mercury never could fix all the problems with that car.

Keeping the rods in that hemi must be like Triton engines trying to Keep spark plugs in the head?

All the manufacturers have some hickups. Unfortunately, stories of these issues in Big-3 vehicles is what is giving Toyota the lead in the US.

The specific products have little impact in such large merger/acquisition discussions. It's all about corporate assetts. Two things make the Chrysler portion of DC attractive: The Jeep name and the established dealer network. GM could definitely benefit from the Jeep name and someone like Hyundai could take advantage of the dealer network.
