Good morning!!!!

Had a nice evening and dinner out with old friends in Milton DE, near Lewes and the ocean.
Off later this morning to Plymouth Meeting PA, outside of Philadelphia to see my goddaughter. Lunch there and then on to my sister's home in Princeton NJ. And then tonight dinner out with friends.
Surprisingly warm here, had my chamois shirt on and almost had to find a golf shirt by day's end.
But then when the sun goes down the temps drop and I'll be glad to have that warm shirt.

Had a nice drive up, lots of fog, and people would just drive through it at high speeds with no capability of stopping in time if there was a traffic backup or whatever ahead. Just plow into the back of someone....so I slowed down a bit and kept going in and out of what seemed like cloud banks.
By Portsmouth it had cleared up. Took some pics while getting a fresh coffee at the little restaurant several miles out on the 17 mile long bridge. But this little Chromebook doesn't seem to have an SD slot so no way to load pics.

December 11th already. I feel like I'm on life's jet plane when I'd like to be in a slower Piper...

Sounds like such a nice trip...Visiting with friends and relatives this time of year.

About 55 up in this tree here in deer country...going to 70. Lots of spiders out this morning...think they scared off the deer.

Poured second cup of coffee. 58ー with cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 66ー with some rain in late afternoon. I am already being blamed for the cooler weather that starts today and continues next week. But people it is winter even in AZ.
txdon, we made reservation for our site last March. When we checked in. They told us we need to make next years reservations by end of this month.
Good Morning All.

well, this sure went well, right?
I told them I could only afford 1000 dollars worth of stone, vs. the 3500 estimate that never gave me what I asked for, the stone price broken out...
They appear to have taken that poorly, nor did they like me quoting Farmer. Sigh.

The real story is that her cousin worked for me, had an emotional break down on the job, granted a very hot day, and stomped off my job saying he couldn't take it any more. Bizarre to the max. And I paid the guy fully for what he had done. Well...family sticks together, I told the gravel guy his cousin had done work for me, they talked, I got badmouthed, and the fix was in. What complete idiots. Well, lots of guys with gravel trucks locally.

one more case of someone coming on to my property, which by community standards is large, and decides it's time to award themselves a bonus.
Except I'm not as dumb as they think.

Please have your trucking buddies call me so I can talk with them about where they buy there stone. My price is based on hauling the stone with a $100,000. truck, liability, collision, workmens compensation insurance, drivers salary and fuel, not to mention tire prices and the upkeep on my trucks. I appreciate you contacting us, but at this time all my trucks are tied up. I suggest you call your online buddies to help you.

You **** Yankee! You ought to know you can't be messin' with them locals like that!
Some areas are so clanish that it can be near impossible to get through the layers. I'm from NE NC and it wasn't too bad around there with my generation, but the older guys would ask right off, "You ain't from here, are you?"

Beautiful the last few days, rode down to Elizabeth City yesterday, 69° there, took a tree to my dad's grave for Christmas. 400 mile round trip, had great burger from Cheeseburger In Paradise in VA Beach. 67° they say today.

Good morning! 66˚ cloudy heading to 77˚.

I have a huge, huge, huge oak tree (4' diameter) that is over my tractor shed and lean-to. It has died. It is a project that a professional with a boom will have to do or I'll let it rot and fall and repair the damage. Anyone have any idea what a tree professional would charge. I don't want too much of a shock before I call them, it's not good for the heart.

Speaking of heart, another local VFD in our county had another fire fatality last week. A 72 year old farmer who was trying to put out a fire, in his field that started when he was bailing, was unable to be revived when he collapsed fighting the fire.

Coming home from town last week I noticed 8 state, town and county police along the road at each corner. One of our Dairy Queen employees apparently did not want to be served a warrant. He did escape. Good guys-0, bad guy-1.

I'm about 1/3 finished with the plum patch fence. I was able to use all materials from the fences I've been taking down.

Rain is expected tomorrow.

Good Morning! Chance of a morning shower. Mainly cloudy. High near 50F. Winds SE at 5 to 10 mph.

No rain since midnight, not even a tenth of an inch yesterday. If anybody's seen El Nino, please tell him he's missed Northern California!

Made a grocery run yesterday and found that a small oak tree had fallen across the only road leading into my place. Someone (probably the dysfunctional neighbor) had cut a chunk barely wide enough to get a vehicle through and left the rest of the mess. So after breakfast I'll saddle up the tractor and chainsaw and take care of the rest.

If it stays dry out this afternoon I'll get in another ride on the motorcycle. So far the valves have only needed adjustment after the first ride, and if they're OK after this one I'm going to stop checking until the next regular adjustment in 5000 miles.

TGIF!

Not an oak, but a friend had a hundred foot redwood come down last winter. I think he said it cost him $3K to get it removed, and the wood cutters kept the wood! Hope you can find a better deal, Don.

Don-
Wife got a quote of $2800 for an oak like yours several years ago. ours is still standing and probably will be until the Lord fells it. I pass under it a couple times per day, and hopefully He'll decide not to take the two of us at the same time.:)

Hope you got better pricing in Texas than the two coasts!

Got home from hunting in southeast Virginia today and decided to mow the grass (yep, never mowed on December 11 before). Was just about finishing up a few minutes ago and decided to turn the ignition switch back one click so the lights would come on...and the whole mower just died. No juice even to the hour meter LCD display.

I wonder if the ignition switch went bad. Was getting too dark to see if any loose wires, so I left it over by the pecan trees. I guess I'll go search the John Deere posts (L 130, 11 years old).

New tractor showed up about 3pm. Just shut it off. Dark now so pictures will have to be gotten tomorrow. I also mowed my yard today with the new finish mower and put out hay. Had forgotten how nice headlights are. Only tractor on the place with lights.

farmer2009, will be looking forward to seeing the new tractor pics.

$3,000 - I think I'll wait till spring to see if I need to cut down 2 more oaks by the paver drive - they were starting to die before the fall rains and I'm unsure if they will survive.
I think If I let the one by the tractor shed fall there will only be about $500 in damages to the roof and maybe a few boards at the most. here is a pic of my situation.

This looks like a Craig's List free firewood situation.

I have found that finding when slow time is for tree maintenance. Then start looking for quotes. I have gotten trees taken down using that approach that saved 1000 of dollars. But in your area there may not be a slow time.

Don. That sure looks like it would do more than $500 in damages. Trees that large are expensive to get taken down. Around here an 18" tree would be a $500 tree. As I think that's what my grandfather paid a year or so ago for one to be taken down. One fall direction was a building and the other was a power line. Canopy was larger than the spread of the line and shop. Crew had a climber and a bucket truck. Took a couple hours to remove.

Do you know someone with a skidder or logging winch? Maybe they would help you pull it.

Another pretty day, mid 60's and little wind. Supposed to be this way for days, only even warmer over the weekend.
