RNG we got info from block company from Lowes late 90's, front wall not tall enough, wife decided rear wall to be done professionally, not done as well, stepson and I redo rear wall add deadman and cut steps up to the level behind wall.

That tall wall has so far made it through one of the wettest winters yet in Northern California, so I think if I can get enough gravel behind the new extension, everything will be just fine. I'm very happy you've had similar success, but it makes me wonder how much of those instructions were written by product liability lawyers.:confused2:

I did drop by the local Subaru dealer yesterday to pick up a screw that seemed to be missing on the Idle Air Control Valve on the van's engine. Except when I took the valve off the intake manifold, I learned that even though the valve body had four bosses for bolts, the intake manifold to which it was attached only had three threaded holes. Then when the parts guy handed me the baggie with the "missing" bolt I'd ordered, it wasn't a bolt at all. Somehow I'd screwed up on the part number. At that point I confessed that this particular Subaru engine wasn't even in a Subaru, but in a Vanagon instead. And the parts guy recommended my ex-mechanic as someone that might be able to help me.:eek::confused2: I had a hard time conveying to him with a straight face that the ex was no longer in business for himself, and was in fact the root cause for me standing at the parts counter trying to unscrew some of his previous efforts. Much to his credit, the parts guy refunded the cost of the part I'd mistakenly ordered, and provided a couple of print outs of the mechanism I'm dealing with in an effort to help get me back on the right track. But the red Check Engine Light remains on, and I continue my quest toward the golden fleece of Subaru-Vanagon nirvana.:confused3:

I was sitting in front of the TV watching the local news this evening when the iPad, telephone, and iPhone simultaneously went off with yet another notification that the local electrical terrorist organization, er, utility, PG&E, would be terminating my service this evening at approximately six o'clock. Apparently the ouija boards their weather prognosticators use have predicted a daily double of wind and low humidity, rendering their frail power infrastructure unsafe for yet another weekend.

Just to ad insult to injury, the young electrician I'd hoped to partner with on the solar power system confessed via text message that the complexities what I hope to install here were beyond his comprehension, and he wished me well in finding someone better suited to my needs. To his credit, it's better to find this out now than later when the components don't work as needed, but it makes me wonder what apprentice electricians are being taught when they can't even determine the wire and conduit sizes needed when given the number of conductors, current flow, and distance between terminals. Good thing I have a copy of the Ugly book, and that I'm not afraid to use it...

good morning all. Much cooler this morning, will remain in 70's today.
Neighbor brought his pro powerwashing rig over yesterday afternoon and cleaned all my equipment.
Which means I'm going to be getting very greasy when the sun comes up, have to grease and lube everything,
Hopeful the gear will look nice, he uses hot water and a wash/wax spray at end and the bush hog sure looked shiny
when he was done. He is much more OCD about cleanliness than I am, good guy for the job.
I was inside resting, but he said he moved some of my equipment around. Hmmmm. Really?...
This should be interesting to see what he did. Not sure he understands methodology of leaving implement used the most in front of
those used the least.

Tried installing Amazon Firestick in rv yesterday, no joy. Kept saying no input on the HDMI setting, but light was inop on remote despite fresh batteries so I think the whole thing is DOA. Unable to fit Firestick plug into tv, due to wall mount blocking access, so we ran a three foot extension HDMI cable there. Not sure if extension cord is allowed but otherwise no way of hooking it up.

No big projects for today, hoping to take it a little easier, been a long hot week. Need to pick okra but that's fun to do.

Hope you all have a nice weekend. Billy, hope smiles are returning for your wife.

Good morning all. Managed to get round all the fields this morning without a single drop of rain. It looked like autumn had finally arrived, with one small oak in particular having turned colour completely. As I got closer I realised it was actually a big branch that I have looked at many a time in the past and wondered if I would live long enough to see it pull over the whole tree, which is growing on an eroded slope. I wish now I had taken a pic before it came down, hard to tell how big a branch it was from this snap of the snap.

Sad times Wng, my condolences to your family.

Ron, I find ladders work parts of my body that must otherwise get little exercise. If I'd done as much climbing as you, I would need to spend the next day soaking in the bath :)

Nothing's impossible for the man wearing the right flip flops! Atta boy, David!

But your heroics beg the question: What make and model is that generator, why are you replacing it, and with what?

Said the man about to blow a big wad on a new generator himself.

It’s the 24kw diesel generator from Affordable Generators in Phoenix I’ve mention on here before with the weird sine wave that wife’s washer doesn’t like.
Kohler 14RESA. Will hook in to the new propane line I ran this summer. Will be more expensive to run, but reliable fuel source for wife should I not be around. Will split use with my MEP803A which is a diesel military surplus.

Drinking first cup of coffee. 42° with cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 60° with a mix of sun and clouds. Feel pretty good this morning. Should be a good day to put Flail Mower on tractor and cut the 2 fields. No other plans for today.

Wngsprd, prayers for your FIL's family and friends. May he RIP.

Kyle, remember I helped Don with some of paver laying. He had pains that I did not have the next day. But I was sure tired that night.

RNG, glad I did not drink the bottle of Coke Cola my wife left in the pantry. Only takes a small amount of caffeine to make me spend most of the night waiting for it to get out of my system. You may be right about the lawyers make the limit on the wall blocks. Good luck with the CEL.

Eric, that branch look like it was a good sized one in picture. I even got the ladders put away after project was finished. The 10' step ladder always gets heavier by the time I need to put it back on it's rack.

Drew, my fires stick is on a HDMI extension cord with no problems. Are you sure you were looking at correct input. I had to install a remote switch on one of my Fire stick to get it to start after not using for a day or two.

Buppies, how is the healing going with last surgery?

Don, not much help ice makers. I turned the one in LG fridge off. Do not use ice in anything. When it is working it gets it's water from the reverse osmosis system.

LS, hope your knee is finally getting better

Jay, enjoy your trip.

Thomas, learning to not set a alarm may be the hardest thing to get over after retirement. I got over it. But still get up early.

Good Morning All.

Ron thanks for asking stitches come out this coming Friday still sore and bruised but no loss of sleep.

I wish we had grass to mow but alias it is all brown small fires in numerous counties near our location

Thomas now that you are retired it is time to really get busy

Up late and can't sleep; is there any prize for being first to post to the GM thread on any given day?

None that I’ve seen. But then Eric and Roy are usually first, after mostly ends the day. Course you never know when a late post shows from Hawaii.

I was wondering why the generator was going also.

Drew, my fires stick is on a HDMI extension cord with no problems.
Ron, super helpful to know, thank you, that means I have a product issue.
When the little led did not come on after batteries put in and buttons pushed, pretty sure
I was doomed.
Will have to wait for another one, but at least I have the cord connected now, yes, Source on right position.

David/Sodamo, is that the big Chinese generator you bought getting hauled out? You went to tried and true, smart.

Light is coming out, time to get a move on. Very cool this morning, will feel good.

I , but it makes me wonder what apprentice electricians are being taught when they can't even determine the wire and conduit sizes needed when given the number of conductors, current flow, and distance between terminals. Good thing I have a copy of the Ugly book, and that I'm not afraid to use it...

I used to design power systems long ago as a rookie engineer. Haven’t looked at a code book in a few yrs. I’ve found most electricians can barely follow the prints, let alone design something. However they are great installing the circuit from point A to point B.

I know there are exceptions.

For me the prize is usually being able to see the sun rise before anyone else

And the first to go to bed, what a deal.

Kyle, are the kids back home?

Thomas, how was the first day of retirement pizza?

My wife told me the other day she wasn’t sure what it would be like having me home all the time when I retire. But having me home for my disability for a couple months, she said she thinks it will work out. Lol

I hope none of that miserable excuse for software made it into your new Ranger.

Hmm, are those bugs contagious. I mean can a Ranger bug affect the ice maker or is this just a coincidence.

RNG you are the mechanic, I'm the mechanic's helper your ice maker was suppose to go out first so I could copy your repair. Grrrr.

47 and a cool north breeze. Finally feels like October.

Thanks for the warm thoughts and prayers about my father-in-law. A great man who taught me so much.

Good reading about many projects and our newest retiree.

May go to a classic car cruise-in at the local Bass Pro...plus the big Outdoors Expo hunting show with 180 vendors at Green Top, down the road.
