Got Ambushed Last Night and Shot!

I've been meaning to reply to your thread.
I hope you are OK and your wounds heal up alright without any problems and still good use of your hand. What happened to you is everybody's nightmare. AND it could happen to any one of us. I hope they throw the book at that guy. His 3 shots were not just accidental, and what he said meant he wanted to murder you.

Anyway, I wanted to share this is why I carry a firearm everywhere I go around the property. I also have them available in strategic places in the home and barn. They are not only for snakes and varmints but the 2 legged kind as well. I have shared the story before about 3 men approaching my Loretta while we were camping and she was alone. On their approach, she brandished a .357 magnum and they turned around and left. What would have happened if she did not show them her weapon? Why were they approaching and then turned around and left?
I hope it never happens again, but if I were you, anytime I went to check on things in the future, I'd be armed ... just in case.

Yep.. god made men.. colt made men equal...

We live in a very isolated place. To me, the most vulnerable time is returning home to an empty house.

All the guns in the world hidden in the house won't help if someone is inside when I return. I always carry.

Glad it was not worst though. What a scumbag and they let him go.

My wife and I had a run-in with a young boy and girl we gave a ride during a blizzard. BTW we knew them. The scumbag stole my wife's wallet. I personally do not know what this world is coming to.

BTW, could he take scumbag to civil court?

Yes he could take the scumbag to court and probably easily win a cash award. The problem is that the scumbag probably has no money for him to collect and if the scumbag has a little money, his lawyer will get it keeping him out of jail. Then he is out all of the money he spent on court costs, filing fees etc. :(

Wow. I just read this thread. Glad you escaped the situation as well as you did. As a lot of others have posted, I too investigate things with a .40 or .45. I can't imagine why the guy is loose now though. This country had better get back to the basics, the right is right and wrong is wrong way of thinking or this society is doomed. Sad part is, it won't happen in my lifetime, but the kids and future generations will pay.

Sounds like it's in Maryland - not a big suprise then - I've been here for decades and sometimes wonder why I stay. Always felt the state was way too soft on crime. I like everything else about the state, geographically.

Double-O, I wish you the best in your recovery - hopefully no lasting pain or damage...

I always carry.

I have my snubby in my pocket when I know I will have to be in certain zip codes for business purposes. But while walking out to the barn? That would never occur to me.

Double Orange, had you had a pistol, would it have helped, or did it happen so quickly that you would not have had opportunity to draw?

I'm sorry that he got you, but so glad the good guy survived this one.

Now, I don't even want to appear to be comparing my story to what happened to Double Orange because it's not. Well, when I first responded to this thread, I sure didn't think I would be posting about intruders...but. While I was at work last night (at the prison... how ironic) someone was in my garage stealing $1200 worth of bicycles. Had to be kids, there are thousands of $$ worth of easily carried tools within feet of where the bikes were and it appears nothing else was taken. Kids or not though, I have to say I really don't feel any different about being violated. We live in a small rural town but all levels of crime have steadily been increasing over time and it really blows me away how much things are changing everywhere. Anyone who knows anything about corrections knows how frustrating and stressful it is to be around convicts 8-16 hrs. a day. Your home is your sanctuary and escape from these issues and when it no longer feels that way, kids or not, I want to take a 2x4 up against their thieving little noggins. As for the rest, that's what the Ruger SP-101 .357 Mag with Black Talons is for.( It's my wife's weapon and load of choice, a Valentines Day gift when we first married) :D
