Some do... some don't; it depends on which sect they belong to. Most will only use steel wheeled tractors if they do.

The Amish here do not use steel wheels on their tractors. South about 15 miles they use steel wheels. The county issues required license plates for buggies due to the damage caused by the steel horseshoes to the roads. The number of Amish buggies around here tear up our local roads.

The Amish or Mennonites we have up here still use horses although I've seen some pretty interesting conversions, such as a 3 bottom plow designed for a 3pth, which they converted to be pulled by a tractor. They do use some modern conveniences such as gas engines to power their (circular) sawmills, and businesses have telephones. When working in Pennsylvania a few years ago the landowner's rep explained that they have a lot of Amish men cutting wood. They can use a chain saw and skidder but aren't allowed to own them.

Must be the new Amish tribe with cell phone, if they have those then they also must have computers but then they need electricity to charge stuff up, electricity from solar maybe:confused2:.

I would think they wouldn't put steel shoes on horses that go on roads, aren't horseshoes just for working horses on frozen ground?
