grease gun tip stuck in awkward spot, ideas to get it off?

YUP, I had the same thing happen last week and went through the same pain push the tip down towards the nipple and wiggle until the inside releases and then it will pull off hopefully this helped.

Loosen the collar before it gets stuck.

The hole isn't big enough enough to break the couple loose from the zerk. It doesn't allow enough wiggle room to angle it off.

You could try taking a dremmel grinder bit and grinding the opening a little bigger. I've done that several times on backhoes to create enough room to remove coupler from zerk. Just hit it with some paint so you don't get rust streaks.

Problem is if you damage the zerk and can't get at it to put a new one in there your really gonna have trouble.

Get a little threaded plug and put it in the grease gun tip that's sticking out to keep it clean and get another end for your new grease gun.

It'll be a little bit of a PITN changing the ends when you want to grease it but at least you will still be able to.

As Will said, they are adjustable. The tip has two knurled rings around it and is constructed in two pieces. Using a couple pliers, loosen the two pieces a half turn or so. Try it and repeat adjusting until the tip is easily removed but still hangs onto the zerk when pumping grease.

A good quality, new tip, almost always requires loosening until it is used a while. I wear out a couple tips a year and always buy heavy duty, 4 jaw tips. Without loosening when new they will get stuck on a zerk so hard you'll destroy the zerk or tip trying to remove it. I alway loosen the tip before using for the first time

My grease guns are all 1/8 npt. They usually tilt to release, I've come close to having the same thing happen when stuck through a small access hole. Can you move the joint to allow the tip to tilt one way or another. As long as it is straight on, it is locked by design.

You could just leave it there, and do a write-up about your newly designed added feature, automatic/self lubing system.

Once you loosen the jaw adjustment so it will come off , you can replace the nipple/zerk with an extended one or use an extension for the exsisting nipple/zerk . They can be obtained in all thread sizes . Only suitable where they wont be broken , like top loader arms etc.
