Just trying to find a little information on this hydraulic block. Know very little about hydraulic valves mainly just about cylinders. This was my grandfathers tractor and I’m about to bring it back to life and want to know more about the hydraulic system. It’s a Gresen 2712 M open system due to the gear driven hydraulic pump? Anyway, was curious if it has power beyond and information about adding another valve for a grapple. Thanks for the help. Keep it in English until I’m a hydraulic genius like some of y’all. Is there another port beside the one with the filter? I can't tell from the pictures.

The in is on the left and the put is on the right.

I understand. What I was wondering is if there is a port behind the out that might just be plugged. I can't tell from the picture.

If it had a power beyond port it would be in this area and could be stamped with a "y".

None the less, you would have to source a conversion plug and that might be difficult.

I believe Parker bought out Gresen some years back. They might be able to help you find the PB plug if you have the port.

You could use a diverter valve to add third function if you can't add PB.

Here’s a few better photos I took this morning. Seems to be only one outlet. IMG_1897.jpgIMG_1898.jpgIMG_1901.jpg

The only options left then is a new valve with PB or a electric diverter valve.

Something like this is what you’re talking about right?
And if you don’t mind can you explain the meaning of “spool” or is there a thread for new folks to hydraulics.
Thanks

A spool refers to the part that redirects flow from the valve to the cylinder. For a typical loader you would need two spools. One for boom and one for curl. If you wanted one valve that controls loader plus a third function for a Grapple, you could look at a three spool valve.

A lot must be determined before buying a valve. For instance, you need to match flow rate of the system. The new valve can have a higher flow rate but can't be lower than the tractor. You still would want to be as close as you can to give the best control.

I will try to help you more this evening.

What model tractor are you working on? We need to find out the specs for your hydraulic system to make sure I don't give you bad advice.

1964 Ford 4000, 4 cylinder. I pulled the pump but can’t find much about it. Found information about the control valve I posted but nothing helpful on the pump. IMG_1790.jpgIMG_1788.jpg

According to tractor data, it is open center 5.4 GPM.

I will do some more research to determine system pressure. In the meantime, is the tractor running and have you tested the loader and 3pt hitch?

Unfortunately the tractor isn’t running at this time. I picked it up a while back from my grandfathers ranch. It was sitting for around 7 years. I’ve gone through 95% of the tractor and am currently turning to the hydraulics. We have another tractor on the farm, just a small 2800 Kubota. So having this tractor with a grapple front end and possible aux hydraulics will help out a lot. Should have the old girl running within a month or so lord willing.

You might want to get it running, test the valve and loader before deciding which way to go. A diverter valve off of the curl Circuit will be cheaper than replacing the valve.

You will need to replace all the hoses and fittings.

Please note as well, hydraulic fluid is toxic and can kill you if it is injected into your skin. Never try to find a leak or cover a leak with you hands.

I may be mistaken but are you talking about the internal pump that controls the 3 pt hitch? The pump I’m talking about is mounted in the very front of tractor that had a spline shaft that runs directly off the fly wheel and pumps hydraulic oil to the cylinders that are on the loader.

From what I can tell it would be the front pump that is 5.5GPM.

Do you have a picture of the entire pump?

I can get a whole picture of the pump in the morning. It seems you can’t find parts for the old Cessna pumps anymore. Since it was pap’s old tractor it’s a free money pit for me. I won’t ever get rid of it. How big of a pump do you think the 50 horse can take? Around a 25 gpm pump? Then I could get a three spool block with an aux port for all my needs right? Just throwing ideas around. The tractor in whole will be completely restored along with all hydraulics. Want my kids to have ole blue when ever it’s time and well, why half *** things when you can just blow the socks off of it.

Okay, I am with you now. The loader pump drives off the crankshaft pulley. I see several different ones ranging from 5GPM to 14GPM.

Is there a separate fluid tank?
