Since they are still in the "replace a part" then see if it works mode they most likely will not be willing to communicate freely. No service facility likes to admit that they really don't know what the real problem is.

You are sure right about that, Mike. I keep thinking this sounds like two hydraulic lines vibrating against each other or against some other part of the running gear. Just the right harmonics and "SCREEECH!" This is one of the hardest problems for anybody to find. If it had not been for the poor hydraulic response, I'd have said this was possibly the problem. But at this point, my "easter egging" ideas are coming up with an empty basket.

Was the piece of plastic floating around in the system. If so, do they know where it came from. Could there be more floating around. You are more patient than I am. By now I would know every Rep at NH by their first name. At least they are admitting there is a problem.

The only time i had a issue with the lift arms was when the cam or linkage was out of adjustment . When i got the tc40d the lift worked fine then one day when i raised the lift it seemed to bind or keep lifting when raised all the way it lowered the rpm when this happened.Adusted the linkage as to specs in the owners manual then it worked again. Its going to be interesting to see where the noise is from.

. They don't have a tractor with a FEL for me to use as a loaner...but I will make more phone calls tomorrow. I don't think I've been a pest at all. It may be time....

If they don't have the tractor you need, get something else, Preferably bigger and more expensive as a loaner. You don't have to use, although you could leave the engine running to run up the hours:p . You need to cost them some money. I suggest you think of the biggest project you ever want to do and get a tractor with that attachment. Go to their place, look at what they do have, think up a project that you might want to do with it, and tell them about it and you will take that tractor. That way they can't say they don't have a tractor with blank. You have got to hit them in the pocket book with hours running on their dollar. By the way, I have never tried this, but it might work. I don't mean to be pushy, so don't feel you have to do this, it's just an idea. If you ask, at least it puts pressure on them even if they don't deliver. If you get the tractor, when you go back in, make up some large number of hours that you have put on it and thank them for letting you use it free for those hours. Additional pressure.
Good luck. We are all hoping you get a reasonable resolution.

I respect your opinion, but disagree with it. I do not think you should take advantage of the dealer. They are trying to repair the unit with CNH help. If he NEEDS aloaner, then ask and hopefully the dealer can loan him something. Leaving it running just to add hours is wrong. Two wrongs do not make a right. I beleive he has been a good customer and hopefully the dealer will realize this. I agree that he needs to put more pressure on the dealer and CNH.

Sure they do, you just aren't looking at it the right way.

I bet they have another tractor similar to yours, and I also bet that your FEL would fit on that tractor.

Suggest that they simply install your FEL on the other tractor and loan it to you. They can swap it back when yours is fixed...

If they complain about installation costs, point out that you have lost a lot of time & money while they first deny and then can't fix this factory defect. Now you are willing to pony up your own equipment to help resolve this problem in a fair and responsible way. Be calm, be persistent.

On a 7308, removal and installation is a 3 hour job, according to the manual. Not sure what a Class III loader would be.

Dave, you are correct. I put a little smile after that to indicate humor, but this made my meaning unclear, and I am sorry for that. I would never leave a tractor running just for spite, but how do you suggest he put pressure on the dealer? There are efforts to fix the machine, sure. But he is making more than an effort to pay for the machine. If he told the dealer that he would try to make a payment, and did not, I suspect the machine would be taken away from him by the bank or dealer. In turn, they must do more than try to fix the machine. They have had more than reasonable time to fix it, he has spent a lot of effort documenting and trying to convince them there is a problem. The machine may be difficult or impossible to fix, but that is the dealer's and manufacturers problem, not the owner. They need to make it right and an appropriate loaner is a good way to do this. Otherwise, buy a used machine from an auction and take your changes. I am certainly open to suggestion on how to put pressure on the dealer, and I hope you have better ones. Mine are given with a little humor (maybe too much sometimes). Sorry for the rant or if I sound angry (I'm not) and you make a good point.

Trumpets Sound - TA Ta Ta DA!!

I have the tractor at home now. I have asked for a copy of the service report, but the dealer rep said it would take a while, with conversation with the NH rep, to write up the report. From the dealer rep I understand that they took off the hydraulic pump (does that sound reasonable/feasible?), replaced a lot of o-rings, and changed to the lower temp spec (what he refers to as "the expensive") hydraulic fluid.

On Tuesday, 1/23, I started and operated the tractor on their lot, just after the work was done (the temp gauge was still indicating warm). The dealer operated it Wed. 1/24 when it was cold, and I called to ask the result. He said no noise. I have the tractor today, in light snow, and it did not make any lift system moan, nor the HST grind...SO FAR (fingers, toes, etc. crossed)

I plan on using the tractor as much as possible, with the video camera in hand, (we got the stuck tape out by disassembling it). I'll mow the doggone grass (wild garlic is sticking up) to get some time on it, and probably re-grade my driveway, to the smoothest extent it's been since I've lived here, >17 yrs.!!

I told the dealer I wanted a loaner of some kind the next time it's in their shop. He said he'd let me have a bobcat or something, depending on the work I needed to do. I have a legitimate need as I'm doing some fire wood work, helping a guy clear some trees from our ditches, and delivering the wood to his truck. It has to be completed by early spring, so there is a real need.

So, assuming "the fix is in", after some input from you folks on what you think they may have done, please, I hope to make another post about what the actual service report says. I know it's tough to speculate, but I wonder what they may have done, and what is totally unfeasible.

I'll also post the outcome of my request for some sort of extension on a warranty. I hope this ordeal is coming to an end, because as I stated at the beginning of this, I do really like the tractor. Here's hoping it operates properly from now on. Also, thank you so much, to all of you that have provided input. The wealth of knowledge is evident.
