Having a blast with our new M62

   / Having a blast with our new M62 #21
I went and operated an M62 a few months ago and REALLY liked it! It had the cab option installed and it was nice to get a feel for it. I thought when operating the hoe though that it really needed the tires filled. The hoe is so powerful it pushed the machine around a lot.
Do you guys notice this or am I just too used to a full sized construction backhoe? Overall, I liked the M62 better than my full sized backhoe.

An idea I've thought a lot about, is using the tractor in reverse when stumpgrinding. Of all my attachments that is the one that bothers my neck the most.
It would take some creative retrofitting, but do you that it would be feasible to override the speed limiter on the creep function in order to allow full speed on it?

Great photos, congrats, and thank you for posting! As always, we look forward to more and more pics of the M62/59!
Till have not gotten one yet Piston?

Hows the excavator coming?

10,000 lbs is a good working weight for M59/M62, 8,000 lbs. good for L39/45/47

Well, I still don't believe what found but the hydraulic radiator was clogged again. This is only after ~15 hrs. of use. Here's the problem I see with a crankshaft driven fan & your operating rpm 2500+, you have a good suction through the front. Additionally you have the FEL in front of the exhaust pointed at the ground that's blowing anything loose into the air right in front of the radiators. Finally you have no screen or anything to filter the debris fron entering the hydraulics radiator. This by the way is the most effective screen for the coolant radiator. Additionally, you have no temp gauge for the hydraulics yet you have a coolant temp gauge & the overheated hydrauic system can cost more than the engine ever thought about... I'm trying to find any sort of idiot light or any temp sensor in the hydraulic system, surely there is one?
In any case, dunno if it's my enviroment or what but I now have to blow out the radiators before work every morning, I should have been doing this from the start but lesson learned.

Maybe try getting an exhaust tip to blow exhaust sideways?

Still haven't! Someday I will pull the trigger...maybe :D
The excavator is jewel. That old beast runs smoother than anything I own, I still need to have a thumb welded on it though.

Mutzfarm,
How do you like the FEL mounted post hole digger compared to the 3 point hitch? I have the FEL mount style but I believe I'd prefer a 3 point hitch assuming I could have down pressure. What is your opinion seeing that you've operated both?

Did you get the hydraulic quick attach on the loader? If yes how do you like it? I'm thinking of retrofitting my M59...

Of course I got the skid steer quick attach. Thought it was standard. I didnt get the hydraulic one though. I dont swap out often enough to justify it. If I am swapping back and forth a lot I usually have someone helping me do whatever anyways and they pull and push the handles.

I think it does need a little weight added. I will probably go with wheel weights VS filled tires. Manual says to take liquid ballast out when using backhoe. I dunno. Anyways liquid is not good for me due to the environment I work in. LOTS OF THORNS and some nails. I have some AWESOME tire sealant in my tires and this doesnt go well with liquid. My last tractor probably had more wood than rubber in the front tires.

I dunno if you can over ride the creep feature, but I can tell you I left it in M instead of L one time and I thought it creeped faster.

I dont think a temp of 205 is bad depending if it is normal though. I wonder how high it gets when you think it is going bad.

Most engines today run at 190+. Some of the tractor truck / 18wheeler thermostats dont even open till it is at 215 degrees which IMO is CRAZY. I think that is when crap starts to warp. I think the 5.9 cummins in my dually doesnt open till about 210+. Still makes me uncomfortable, but thats emissions for you.

I know on the other tractor we got rid of sometimes I had to blow out the radiator every 30minutes in the summer cutting thick grass. Gets old in a hurry.

Good idea on the sides!! Thx!!!!

I use a set of ramps to back the center section up on & then put logs under the side frames to keep it stable. Finally crawl up under from the back of the center section. I haven't found a better way but I'm open to suggestions....

Not really fond of having to look at the face of the grinding disc as I grind the blade laying on my back.

WOW that sounds like a lot of work.

You sharpen them by talking in a youtube video for 4 minutes? Doesn't seem all that effective, haha. But seriously, I scrolled through without sound (at work) and saw no action. boring! :p

 I just figured most people understood more less how to grind so I was just explaining.

Down pressure is the key word here. Most of the time I am a one man band. The 3 point is more visible from the seat, but I think I am hooked on the hydro auger. You can put a lot more pressure on it vs the 3 point. Probably lot more than even one with a small down pressure cylinder also. They make units you can mount on the side of the FEL bucket or also have ones that are off set Q&A for the front also. This would be more visible to the operator.

Next option get one that mounts on the hoe.

How long does it take you to disconnect and reattach the backhoe?

Does the reared feel light without it?

Does the bucket weigh more than the grapple?

I was thinking vertical exhaust but that would require cutting the side panel or equiv..... shooting the exhaust in between the front tire & the FEL is a tight fit but it looks like the best option available.

Taking off the backhoe took me maybe 15 minutes the first time, but putting on the 3 point linkage the first time was a nightmare. All the paint was fresh and none of the pins would slide. Not a problem after the first use of the 3 point and wore off some paint. I also dab a little greas on everything. I can disconnect the hoe, put on the 3 point and hook up the rotary cutter now in less than 45 minutes. Maybe even 30 minutes if I wasnt fat....lol. I can take the hoe off, pull away, back back up and reconnect in less than 20 minutes.

The rear is light with nothing on it. I dont get carried away if nothing is on it and I try to get something on there asap.

I think the bucket is around 550lbs and I think the grapple is about 450lbs.

I tossed some ideas around, but figured I would just be reinventing the wheel.

Im jealous of that 16gpm 3rd function. Kubota seriously needs to get that going on the L series so i can run some skid steer attachments.

IMO, if Kubota just put the L series factory cab option on the M62, it would be the perfect machine! (Okay, maybe 10 more PTO hp while their at it )

Amen! I'd give anything for a factory cab with A/C... and you'd need some of that extra 10hp run the compressor & blower.

Wormwood,
I drove/operated an M62 with the Curtis cab. It didn't have A/C and would certainly get hot in there. However speaking with Curtis manufacturing out of MA, they said they should have optional a/C available for it in the near future.

The cab seemed very functional, but it wasn't "nice" like the factory cabs are. (But just as costly)

I totally agree that the m62 would be amazing with a full cab and i dont know why they havent made the option available. Unfortunately for me, they're a bit to heavy for what i do. I find myself having to drive on newly poured sidewalks and soft lawns pretty often so i think i'd have to stick with the L.
