Well.....reading thru my owners manual, I saw a recommendation for rear ballast. If ballast is added to the rear tires, they recommend a max of 850lbs for a rear attachment......so perhaps I should dial down my requirements....

Frank,

What is you FEL lift capacity?

My TSG-50 is like 860lbs I think and not enough for my ballast needs.

David -

Yes, I definitely see your point, the loader lift capacity is #2500....so when I load the tires, around 1100 or 1200....800 lbs would leave me a bit short of equalization. Not that I know it has to be exactly equal?
Seems like it says for tire capacity.....my only concern would be voiding the warranty in the event of tire failure, for not following the recommendation. But....they HAVE to be building a safety margin in there.....

I'd be interested to hear TBN comments on this issue, hopefully without starting another thread. ..?

Best advice I can give is to follow the manual recommendations. You don't need so much 3PH ballast that the front wheels are too light when the bucket is empty. Also note the bucket is closer to the front axle than the rear ballast box by a good margin.

Time to bump this thread.
Getting close to spring, and I'm getting the itch to get out and do some tractoring.
I've decided to go with a 78 or 84" box, preferably gannon or modern, as they make the heavy duty boxes. I'm currently in the process of installing dual rear remotes, (2 sets) so if I could find a deal on a used hydraulic box I would go that route.

As for use....I initially indicated I would be using the BB for "ballast" for front end work, which is true.....BUT....I will also be doing quite a bit of trail prep, and land leveling/dirt moving, thus my aforementioned choice.

I've been searching Ebay, CL, auction sites, etc, and can't seem to find any deals. Anyone have any leads where I should be looking?

Frank,

Bump...

I've not seen Modern yet, but I am aware of the Gannon (It is on my list also). I've already got 2 rear remotes, but I think I'd rather use them for Top & Tilt vs. HYD Box Blade.

When you find a secret source, please tell me if not all of us.

Be well sir.

Hey David -

Does the top & tilt use more than 2 remotes? I am definitely comtemplating the tnt and the hyd blade.....I've got a total or 4 rear remotes after I get it hooked up....

I've got one implement place in mind, and have ur # if I see something for you.....:D

There are several on Craigslist, but all appear to be some distance from you - like Tulsa or Greensboro )NC, I assume). I find a dozen with a single search using SearchTempest.

scoutcub, you will need a total of 4 rear remotes, or 8 outlets. 2 for the "TnT" and 2 for the rear blade. 1 for the angle and 1 for the offset. You will not need the hydraulic tilt on the blade because you will have the tilt function on your hitch from the "TnT" setup. Same setup that I need to have on my 75hp tractor, but I would bet that my 32hp tractor will get it first. Both of my Mahindra tractors currently only have 3. :(

By the way if I haven't already suggested it, the Land Pride RBT3584 would be the perfect rear blade for you. I wonder if we could get a deal from a LP dealer if we all got together and bought the same blade. I know a few of us on TBN want that same blade.

How many remotes do you have right now?

If one has TnT isn't the tilt on the rear blade a bit redundant? I guess it would provide more tilt but one would get a fair bit from the TnT. Manual angle and tilt on the blade plus TnT for fine tilt adjust might be enough.

If you are talking to me, did I not say that the tilt of the "TnT" would usually take care of tilting the blade? :confused3:

Yes you did mention that tilt was not needed on the blade; sorry. I was just trying to see if four remotes were really needed (for my tractor three are standard). It seems that top would not be that important for a blade, is it? If you only have 3 remotes, which functions are the most important to control?

Most of the time dealers don't mind putting the 'little stuff' online. I found one at one of my local dealers that I was going to get if my 110 hadn't came with a box blade. I'll attach some photos of it, I never inquired about a price. I took the pics probably a month and a half ago, but I was there two weeks ago and it was still there. They are an old JD dealer that got bought out by a chain. Still a very large dealership, but only sell used. Prices are usually veru good. The Box Blade is actually "Nolan's" branded, which is the name of the dealership. (M Nolan Farms now if you want to look them up)

Brian - Thanks for the clarification! I am currently in the process of installing "dual rear remotes" , which is 4 outlets. Guess I was a little confused that 1 remote is actually a "set". So to get this right.....if I get the TnT, it will use all my rear remotes? So I would not be able to actually utilize a hydraulic box blade unless I acquire more remotes...?
That might change my thinking.....perhaps I should be looking at either a regular BB or one with the long lever that you can adjust the rippers.....

As for that rear blade, that thing is nice! But I think I would be better served with a BB, at least for now.....

Martian - looks interesting! Wonder who makes Nolan.....maybe Befco?
I do like the color.....
They didn't have it listed on their TH site. I just sent them an email....thanks for the tip!!

For the actual use of a rear blade, you are correct in that the top link is set once and you are done with it. But and this is a BIG BUT, almost all rear blades because of their design to be able to be rotated 360* are a bit high at the hitch. So it is VERY nice to be able to use a hydraulic top link, retracted it usually gives you a lot of extra height that makes for an easy transport.

Because I too currently only have 3 rear remotes, I have found that I would rather have use of the hydraulic top link vs the hydraulic offset. So until I install a 4th remote, I just use the mechanical offset feature and my hydraulic sets in the tool shed. :(

So IMO the "TnT" and the blade angle are the 3 most important functions to have. ;)
