I am rebuilding a hydraulic loader cylinder on my Kubota L35 and am having difficultities getting the new ring seal put in place on the head. The material that this ring is made out of resembles plastic and the problem I am having is that after stretching it out over the head it won't contract back to it's original diameter once it is in the ring groove. To solve this problem should I be heating up this ring to make it more pliable when pulling it over the head? Will it then contract back to it's original diameter after cooling? I am really stumped here. It seems like I should be doing something different then just over stretching the ring so it fits over the head. Needless to say I have ruined the new replacement and I have another coming via. Carvers tomorrow.

Any wisdom or enlightenment would be greately appreicated. I also apoligize for my lack of proper hydraulic terminology.

When I rebuilt a cylinder on my loader, I heated them up in boiling water to soften them, it seemed to work well for me.

Hello Kennyd,

I Just got off the phone with Carver and they pretty much said the same thing. They also told me that after you put the wiper gasket in place to carefully put a hose clamp over it to help squeeze it back in shape. I will try this out.

Thanks for your help!

Yup, I did that also, but I forgot to tell you, SORRY! And I put a thin piece of aluminum flashing over the seal before I put the clamp on it to protect it.
