Oh yeah, one more thing. I let this guy borrow a Segway last fall. He hadn't returned it yet! After I got PO'd at him he brought it back along with an attitude. It will be a very cold day before I do anything for this guy again.

The new neighbor was outside today pulling up a decorative fence. I walked over, offered to help, and he accepted. When I rode over on the tractor his eyes lit up. For the next hour we got to work together and get to know each other, do a good deed, enjoy some seat time, and get rid of that gawd awful fence I have always hated. Winning!

This is a great thread. I have met all my neighbors (now friends) because of my Big Mean Orange Machine.

One day I looked at the window and saw my neighbor clearing the snow from his 1/2 mile driveway using a tiny gas powered snow blower. I could not let this happen.

I hopped on the 'ol trusty Bx24 with my brand new snow plow. By this time, I saw the snowblower but he was nowhere to be found. I am guessing the poor thing could not hack it and quit on him and he headed in. Just as I was about to finish his driveway he came out of his house, shook my hand and thanked me. Of course he offered money, but I would not accept it. A couple of days later there was a 25 dollar gas card in my mailbox.

We have been friends ever since. Now, we are at the point where he has his own key and whomever gets home from work first or gets off his lazy butt, will plow both driveways.

He is now one of my best friends. :thumbsup:

After I finished his, his neighbor's wife was out attempting to blow her driveway. I spent 10 minutes finishing it for her. I was a little surprised when she complained it should be wider and I did not get a thank you. But I would help again if needed.

Man, talk about ungrateful!

My neighbor is an avid gardener and has been for years. His old 8N gave out on him about 3 years ago. I have been tilling his garden for him since. He is too old to chase a rototiller any longer. He offers me money for fuel. I take it because he would feel offended if I didn't.

Gives one a sense of belonging and community when you help out and it is appreciated.

I'm a retired Fire Captain here in No. Calif, and now raise and train Labradors as Gundogs. Yesterday I was out on the property training when a neighbor drives in and parks. I walk over to him and he looks at my new John Deere 3320 and says shiny new toy! I got a big grin and said yes, I needed it badly. He asked me if I hired out and I said no, I'm new to this tractor stuff. He told me he has to dig out the lid to his septic tank and it will take him "days" as he is in his 80's. I said "Oh heck no you ain't", let's go dig it out. He said he had to go to town right now but asked if I could help him this coming Thursday. Absolutely!
This is the second time I have talked to him in three years but I expect we will be good friends from here on.

Winter before last we had record snowfall amounts. My neighbor has a private road that was covered in waist deep snow. I let him borrow my L5030 to plow his way to his home and his tractor. I had to go out of town so I let him use my tractor for an entire week. He was actually out making money with it digging out neighbors. Two weeks ago my front axle bearings went out and I asked to use his tractor for a couple of hours to pull a small dump trailer. He said no. I have kissed this guy's butt for the past 8 1/2 years trying to be a good neighbor. I'm done with it. To top it off the guy is mad at me for letting him know what a one-way jerk that he is.

Yeah, there's the ever present exception to the rule. Nothing can be done about it but ignore the fellow from now on. There are others that appreciate the good deeds. I have had similar experiences.
