ovrszd, Nice looking puller you built. Looks heavy duty.

JustBob, Looks good. Are you going to weld what you have in the drawing to some square tubing at least 1/4, maybe even 3/8, and brace it like ovrszd did.

Here is the JAWZ version of a grabber/puller.

J.J.

Yes, it will be welded to 3 1/2" x 3 1/2" x 3/8" square tubing, like this...

I will brace almost identical to these with 2" x 2" x 3/8", adding gussets if need be...

My first design for a tree puller/post puller was almost 10 years ago, and it was almost identical to the Star Hill Jawz. I had seen the Jawz a couple of years ago and was interested in it until I got a quote. Of all the designs it is the most complicated but probably the most useful.

I have not had any time to get back on this until today. The first machine shop I hired to cut the jawteeth handcut them instead of using a machine as I had specified in my drawings(see those jaws in the previous post). After that was settled, I hired another shop and changed the design, seen here...

I drilled the hinged arm that holds the teeth and pressed in the sleeve bearings(flanged, oil impregnated bronze)...

Then I spent this evening building a cutting torch guide...

I can't either!

Any progress?

Sorry, no updates, I cant afford to pay a welding shop and my welder is just not up to the task of welding material this thick. I will update as soon as I can get started again.

Mail the materials up here and I'll finish it and try it out for you. Are you using a stick welder?

I think the shipping charges would require a credit application!

I have a Hobart 175 mig welder, been using flux core in it mostly for better penetration since most things I work on are 3/16" to 1/2" inch. With the puller I can weld the 5/16" plates and braces, but the 3/4" teeth are just to much for my small welder. I hope in the next month or two I can sell my welder and get a larger mig, maybe in the 250 amp range with 1/2" penetration.

I'm looking forward to seeing the finished product.
