Homemade Tree / Post Puller

Sorry -- No, the one pictured above is lightweight but trees often slip out of its grasp. The Pullers with hydraulics are about 500 lbs and I am afraid my upgrading might be too much weight for my loader to be functional.

Thanks for that review!! My original "tractor plan" was to buy a BrushGrubber like that one. I'm glad now that I didn't.

Here is a picture of my Brush Grubber now. The plates were moved closer and re-welded. It works better now but it needs serrated teeth -- or something to hold onto the tree better. I am still considering a hydraulic clamp type puller.

I am hesitant to buy, since nearly half of my FEL lift capacity will be used to lift the attachment.
Curious -- are there any 3-Point Hitch tree pullers with hydraulic clamp?

I am impressed by the designs I see on this thread.
I have seen mini articulated fork lifts used by building movers whose lifting capacity is much greater than their size would make you think.
They achieve this capacity by having a large plate below the mast of the forklift which is pushed against the ground to provide a base for lifting rather than have the counter weight of the fork lift counter balance the lifting.
What this makes me think is one an additional part added to the tree puller designs. If attached to the frame were two hydraulic cylinders with large feet which pushed against the ground they could provide the break out force needed to rip the roots out of the ground rather than relying on the limited capacity of the loader arms. The loader arms could be allowed to float or just be lifted with the tree roots by the additional lifting cylinders. Once the roots are free, the loader could take over. Small cylinders, say 8x2 could provide am amazing straight up lift far greater than most tractor loader arms could ever do.

I don't believe I've saw a 3pt puller being produced commercially. But I see no reason a QH puller couldn't be adapted to fit the 3pt. My Brother's QH shear can also be pinned to the 3pt.

Dave do a search on You Tube and you will find one that already exist, I've seen it a few months ago. it had a large ram on each side of the grapple that pushed against the ground, once the roots came out the tractor could handle moving it around. I can't remember where it was located, but it wasn't in the states.

Sometimes I'm blown away at the equipment that's built overseas, I have wasted a lot of my life just watching all sorts of stuff on You Tube, LOL

Yes, a few. "All pullers can be built to fit any machine, or even a 3 point hitch." , from their Website: Buckthorn Puller - Custom built Skid Steer attachments to fit almost any need you may have.

I have their SSQA Long Arm Puller, very well made.

katoomed00 you got my idea. The youtube video is a super version of what I see being practical.

This is a smaller independent one, but the idea could be adapted to a tractor attachment.

I made mine outta used iron and cylinder also. But if someone asked me how much I had in it, I'd guess at the cost of the iron if I had to buy it as well as the cylinder, hoses, etc., and that would be my cost estimate. But then, I don't consider any dimensional iron as scrap. And definitely wouldn't consider a working cylinder as scrap. :)

This Spring I removed 1/4 mile of barbed wire fence and pulled every post from the seat of the Bobcat.
Richard, I sure hope that was YOUR fence you pulled. Or just upset with your neighbors?

How ironic that you would mention that. My neighbor to the East is a total crook. Last year he replaced 1/4 mile of fence on our property lines. The corners at each end were left so it was easy to tell where the fence belonged. He moved it 8' over on us. I told him he'd hafta move it. He said he was busy and probably couldn't get to it til Spring. I told him he had until April 15th. April 13th the fence still hadn't been moved so I went to visit him. He gave me all kinds of excuses. I told him the morning of the 15th I would crank up my tractor with Grapple bucket and pull his fence. Told him I'd pile all the steel in the scrap iron pile to sell and would pull and cut up all the hedge posts for firewood. He said he'd rather I didn't do that. I said, then move your fence. The next morning he removed the entire fence and the next day rebuilt it in the right place.

Why do people gotta be like that???? What angers me most is that he made me get angry before he corrected the problem. :(

You and Shield Arc and your neighbors... sure makes me thankful all mine are currently good neighbors. I've had bad neighbors (not as bad as yours) and it is just plain aggravating.

Glad you got that situation resolved.

Some just seem to be born with the "Booger Gene".

Nicely done. I was afraid a 3 -point set up would get the operator stuck with branches.

I've been watching this post. To see where the parts actually fail. It's not uncommon for the quick tach bracket to twist, resulting in a bent coupler,. I've repaired a few of these for my local kubota dealer.
We convert the original 2.5 tube to a 3/16 3.5 in tube and install the locking quick attach arm locks.
And I guarantee u won't bend it again If u lock it , using the provided locks.
