Hooks on Bucket

I was planning on adding hooks to my bucket but once I put the grapple on I hardly ever us the bucket it seems. Have only had it on once to move some dirt since then so decided not to worry about hooks. With the grapple I can just run a chain through and use it. Moved a couple of new shooting benches into place that way and it worked fine.

What manufacturer grapple, what size ?

I have an Armstrong Ag Mini Grapple. IT is 60 inches wide and opens to 45 inches, so has a big bite. It has 11 tines with 6 inch spacing and weighs 440 pounds. IT has 2 2 1/2 x 7 cylinders. Cost me I believe $1,100 at the local dealer. So far no issues and I've worked it pretty good. The below is a Yaupon Holly I pulled with it. Got all the brush in the background burnt today. Yay! finally caught up on burning brush.

Ken's hooks have provided good service for us.

Q: What if the top of my bucket is double-walled?
A #1: Some heavy duty buckets have a double wall construction on the top, and bolting hooks to them could damage the bucket by compressing the wall’s together, and you would not be able to properly torque the bolts. If you have this type of bucket construction, then these hooks may not be the best option and you should consider having the hooks welded on.

In summery, KBOGH/BoltOnHooks LLC does not recommend or endorse the use of the bolt on products for these heavy duty, double walled style buckets.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention

The area where the hooks will mount is not doubled, they will go on that heavy plate the runs across the top and there is access from the rear. Here is one picture, there is more on the Kubota page - we have a section dedicated to the style bucket you have.

Thanks for your interest in our products.

I had my friend who is a very good welder zap on two 3/8" grab type hooks on the corners of the bucket. I'm not really a fan of bolting things on in an application like this.

Per: Proof Load Tensil Strength For Grade 2, 5, & 8 a grade 8 5/16" coarse thread bolt has a proof strength of 6300#.
A pair of them should be good for 12,600#, at a 3 to 1 safety margin, that is 4200#, more than most any of us can lift with a loader (or even pull on a unreinforced bucket without it pulling through).

iF bolt is good quality and correctly sized it will survive any pulling you can load it with, chain will probably be first place to expect failure.... Welds of hooks (not commercially made and proof tested) probably second place failure will occur...

I am using a 1/4 inch chain proof tested to 1,250 pounds with two bolts rated at 12,000 lbs tensile strength (for each slot bracket or shackle mount) on a tractor the can only apply 1400 pounds ground/traction weight... Don't see my bolts failing, maybe pulling through base material first....

Just an option to the hooks. Slotted angle iron has several advantages. You can hook from front or the backside of the bucket, the angle iron adds strength to the top of the bucket and there are more slots along the top of the bucket to hang excess chain or to vary where you are hooking too.

Another satisfied user of Ken's product. I went with bolt on because I did not have a welder at the time.
