Re: House, Second Floor Joists

The view from the ground hasn't changed much, but from up here it's coming right along. This is looking more-or-less out the front. The pond looking area in the woods is where our driveway passes through the old fencerow. Much fill is needed /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Re: House, Second Floor Joists

Rob,
House sure looks like it will be nice. Property is very nice also, don't envy all that mud though. I also wanted to reply to your question about FEL rods vibrating. I used black cable ties on the left side and tied the loader hyd. lines to the rod, this did two things, it stopped the vibrating and also stopped the hyd. lines from rubbing on my left front tire while turning hard to the left. On the right side I adjusted the rod in until it was snug in the "saddle" and retightened the jamb nut.

Thanks,
Chuck

Rob,

I am jealous. It sure looks good from the second floor. Maybe by this time in May I will be where you are.

That's a good question. We're meeting the builder at the site today to finalize the chimney, front door and a few other details. I'll check it out then /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Re: House, Second Floor Joists

Yeah MDNY, this is the fun part for sure. Of course what you don't see in all my photos is the time and effort we're putting into our current house to get it ready to sell. Daily trips to our newly rented storage unit /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif We keep telling ourselves it's all a part of the experience /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Re: House, Second Floor Joists

Rob,

It can be very expensive to maintain two homes until the old one is sold. Luckily we only have a month to month issue for our rent and we have to give 30 days notice of our move out. Other than that I can't wait to start soon. Trying to line up the excavator and builder for a meeting Saturday to review the land and what I want to do. I think I will make a small change to my clearing. Instead of 150FT x 300FT we will go 125FT x 325FX allowing for more back yard.

We bought our present home on 10-1-98 and our old home did not sell untill 5-1-99. Tight time with the money.

Re: House, Second Floor Joists

The last two times we bought a house (we are in the third), we bought the next house not having sold the first one (luckily we didn't need to sell it in order to qualify for the mortgage), but as luck would have it, found a seller within a couple of months of closing on the next house...really got lucky.

In my area it can easily take 12-18 months to sell a house.

My parents really got screwed (or should I say screwed them selves) by gambling on the re-sale when they bought their current house and put the house we grew up in for sale at the same time.

As luck would have it they were both variable rate mortgage rates, rates kept climbing, it was a coold winter and oil prices where sky high (this was about 10-12 years ago).

Really killed any nest egg they had and used all available cash for quite a long time just to get buy. Luckily my dad was making decent money for that 2 year period so they survived.

Defintely not recommended!

Re: House, Second Floor Walls

The framers have started the second floor walls! Things are really taking shape now. I spent this morning out there burning scrap and doing some clean-up for them. My oldest son (7) met the lead framer the other day and asked about scrap wood for a tree house. They came to an agreement and now there is a very tidy pile of various cut-offs etc. Very impressive crew /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
