Looks like you won't have to worry much on a snow load. /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif

Hey, how 'bout some details! How many driveshafts, doors, cylinders, gears and sparkplugs?

I typically use Kodak film and our digital camera is HP. Am I buying American?

Thanks for the compliments on the house /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Yeah Thomas, I asked the builder how they were going to vent the turret roof and she said they weren't. We both agreed that ice dams are rather unlikely at that pitch, in fact I'm not sure anything will stick to it especially a roofers shoes /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif It will have soffit vents but no peak vent /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Re: House, Topping Out

RobS,

We had the same question about venting the turret and was told it wouldn't be an issue. Hope so.

Rob,

GMC Sierra 5.3L SLT. I don't know how many driveshafts. 4 doors, 8 cylinders, 8 plugs.

Very fun to drive.

Yes sir you are buying American!

Re: House, Topping Out

Need help with photo's. I cannot seem to load any pics. The files are about 148-149k in size, but it keeps telling me they are too big. I know the limit is 150k but I should be ok?

   / House #170
Re: House, Topping Out

Is your graphics peogram telling you it is 149k or is Windows Explorer telling you that? They don't always report the same.

Try reducing the picture by 10%

Re: House, Topping Out

Ozarker,

Windows explorer is saying it. I will look up the past forum on reducing the image size.

Re: House, Topping Out

Windows rounds numbers up or down so it doesn't always give you the actual number. You should be able to reduce it by 10% with no loss in quality.

Re: House, Topping Out

RobS,

Closed on the mortgage yesterday, our bank offered a construction loan that converts to full mortgage in 6 months. We should be in within 5 months or less.

We met the builder today at the property (as soon as I can figure out how to reduce pics I will post) to set stakes and position of the house.

They begin excavation on Tuesday and should have a foundation in by the end of next week weather permitting. Just glad to be moving along.

Re: House, Topping Out

MDNY, good news to hear on your financial progress. Can't wait to see some pictures of "real" progress.

We had a beautiful weekend so I got some seat time (both tractor and bicycle /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif ) and a lot of little stuff taken care of at the new house and here at home. Of course tomorrow being a workday for the construction crews it's going to rain /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif One of these days we're going to be weathered in. Who knows, maybe you'll beat us to the housewarming party /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Re: House, Chimney Construction

The photos of the house aren't changing much lately as the pace of progress has slowed a bit. A lot has happened in the last couple of weeks though. We've got shingles on about half the roof, the basement and garage floors are poured and the chimney is going up.

This shot should prove interesting to the equipment junkies out there. The brick masons have a "hydro-platform" in use. It's like a self climbing tower crane on a slightly smaller scale. Built in hydraulics raise the platform and they put another set of leg extensions in then lower it onto the higher legs. Pretty slick set up. You can't tell in the photo but it says "15,000 pound max" on the side. Pretty amazing for a piece of equipment that folds down into it's own trailer pulled behind a pick-up truck. He's also got a telescoping forklift to move materials up to the platform.

In case you can't tell, I'm one of those equipment junkies /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Re: House, Chimney Construction

RobS,

It is great to see the house moving along. I see how your turret roof went in and I can't wait to see mine. They are ready to poor the footings tomorrow (actually figured out the photo stuff). So with any luck and the rain holding off we will have walls set and poured next week.

Here is a photo of the basement with the forms. I will resize other photo's and post this week end of earlier progress for the clearing.

Re: House, Chimney Construction

Thanks MDNY. Looks like you're really starting to move on your house. Glad to see we're not the only ones fighting mud /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif Actually, I sincerely hope you don't have the mud problems we had during the basement pour, it was a rather unpleasant few days for us.

Anxious to see your next few pictures, it should move along pretty quickly for a while /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Re: House, Chimney Construction

MDNY, We're at a similar stage. Just had the house footings poured yesterday. They had a cast of 12 plus the concrete truck drivers. Shop footings may be poured Monday and the house basement walls late next week. See attachments.

Re: House, Chimney Construction

JTD, good to see your progress as well. If I didn't know any better I'd swear that was Lake Michigan beach sand you're building on /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Re: House, Chimney Construction

JTD, those looke like wide footings. What size are they? Is that the norm in your area?
