How did you first discover Kubota?

I ran JD equipment for 20 years. We had a 2210 that was used for yard work. I called the dealer to see about getting the engine rebuilt. They told me it wasn't rebuildable. Old retired mechanic down the road rebuilt it for $600. Adios! We have a very user friendly Kubota dealer in town and they have all my business now. Ed B

I'll make mine short too... The 2 listed in my avitar are my 19th and 20th tractors. My 5030 signature is from way back when I had one....long gone. Been running Kubby's for over 30 years now with very little issues. At pushing 70, these two will be my last.....

In 2004 I finished up my home on 6 acres and I wanted a tractor to mow with. The only thing I "knew" was that I wanted a belly mower and a FEL. I really didn't know what else a tractor could do but I figured the FEL would be useful. I'm from farm country so my only experience was what friends and neighbors had which were mostly john deere , farmall, and massy, Etc. These were all bigger utility tractors but they did the jobs I wanted. I did know there were smaller ford tractors that a lot of landscapers used but I didn't know any farmers that used those. I looked for something used no luck there. Through the internet I discovered New Holland and Kubota and saw that CaseIH had a small utility model that would work. Neither the john deere or new holland dealers seemed very interested in selling me a tractor. They would have likely sold me what I wanted but the problem was I didn't really know what I wanted. I stopped by a kubota dealer one day and he took the time to find out what my needs were. From that, he made some recommendations so I could compare them. The final comparison involved actually driving the different models. It was still my final decision as to which model I bought but he sure helped me narrow my focus. It was really because of that dealer that I bought Kubota. I had great luck with that machine and just recently replaced it with a new (slightly bigger) Kubota. Unfortunately, my original dealer closed down quite a while ago but I did find a good one a little farther away so I look forward to many years of service from both tractor and dealer.

My little JD STX38 would spin like crazy climbing the hill by my house. I was looking for something bigger. I saw a GR2100 (or close) that looked really cool at the local county fair. I searched ebay for "Kubota" just to see if there were any used units out there, and the BX's dominated the results. Oh, man. 4wd, diesel power, bucket... I was sold. Took about 3 years more, but then I bought a used BX2230 and off ebay. I made my bid with 2 minutes to spare and had never spent that kind of money on a whim, certainly not sight unseen. My hands shook for the rest of the morning when I won it. Haven't regretted a single day since then, 4 1/2 years ago. My BX spins on the hill too, but mostly because I have to turn while climbing, so the differential always is active. If I lock in the 4wd, then the inside front wheel spins. No way around it I guess. Don't care. :D

My experience was two fold. In the 1980's I knew a guy that used a small Kubota to rototill gardens in Maine. Those gardens are mostly big rocks and beat the equipment to death. Anyway, this guy was zero on maintenance I don't recall if he even owned a grease gun. Fuel and funnel was disgusting and I'm being kind. A great guy, just not on maintenance. I figured his tractor would be toast in a couple years but it just kept going and going and going and I don't recall that he ever replaced any parts. You couldn't kill it and I think he sure tried.

So, when I was looking for a 90HP tractor I went into a Deere dealer and A) was turned off by the attitude of the sales staff and B) the unyielding retail price. Just to rule them out I went into Kubota and they fell all over me with smiles and competence. I bought an M8950 and what a tractor it was. I still am sorry I sold it when I moved. If a guy is capable of love, it's for that tractor.

Small point...after using it for a while I thought I had a bad fuel gauge. I told the dealer and we ordered a warranty fuel gauge. Nothing changed because the tractor was so fuel efficient I wasn't using enough. Deere make a good utility tractor but I think they better keep an eye on Kubota that is challenging them.

Had a JD 318 for years, then a 425. The 425 ruptured a hydraulic hard line while tilling. Buried to the axles, tiller buried, and couldn't run it because it was spewing fluid all over the exhaust - so couldn't raise the tiller.

JD had removed the franchises from _all_ the local dealers. The distant dealer still remaining couldn't/wouldn't help but did sell me the part. Since I couldn't get under the tractor I had to take the whole machine apart from the top to swap in the new line.

The new part had been redesigned to avoid this particular failure (with no recall or notice...). Once I got the tractor running I gave it away and bought my BX24. Later added a GR2120.

JDs treatment of their dealers was atrocious. Left the users with no available parts or service. They finally brought Washington Tractor into my area. Tried them once and couldn't get anyone to even talk to me.

Orange all the way...

Want a real laugh? I just replied a couple posts ago with my story and just learned I'm the original poster of this thread from eight years ago. I just answered my own question...twice.

Wonder if there are any Kubota/Deere dealers left.

Early when I was thinking about a small TLB there was a Dealer near Grass Valley CA that carried both.

When I got far enough ahead to actually make the purchase I was thinking Deere... learned Deere had pulled the franchise... went to a big AG Dealer and couldn't get the time of day... they receptionist said it was harvest time and to come back in a month... I did and said wanted a small tractor and was told they just order them... never stock them.

Starting reading a lot on TBN and found a Kubota Dealer that was easy to talk with... really made the deal over the phone...

Not having a Dealer local or in any of the nearby counties meant I had to travel no matter what I decided.

Still have the BX23 and think I always will.
