How do you reduce the PIA of greasing?

Thanks for all the great information guys. This is fantastic.

I will see if I can get the smaller coupler from a Canadian supplier, or I may need to ship it to my US address. In the meantime, I will invest in a Lock and Lube too.

RickB - I suspect you can also get my AC only stick welder to do welds that look like fine porcelain. If you were nearby, I would happily pay for your time to show me what I need to know. I would also consider that to be a reasonable solution to my question.

Thanks again guys. CDN Farm Boy, please let us know what you find.

Jon

Not quite. I am happy to use MIG and DC- welding choices. My responses to the "how do you do that " questions here are based on my experiences. I'm not concerned whether others agree or even understand. As I said, I hope everyone is happy with their purchases.

You have to call for the Waite Tool === no web site.

Even the ebay.ca auctions I found were for the same(?) US retailers, with the item shipped out of the USA With the resultant excessive charges. The company website is Home - Univerco But it appears that they mostly make farm implements, there is no mention of their couplers at all (which is a bit weird). Ill keep my eyes open next time Im in a place that carries lube equipment and maybe mention the company's product and see if they'll bring some in. $30+tax all in is about my limit for something like this. Shipping would likely run in the $10 or 15 range if OFS would even ship.

OFS is a cool store, been there a few times when I lived in the area.

I'm going to stop in there this week to pick one up. I'd happily buy two and drop one in the mail for you if you like. Let me know if you want one and what your cut off price for it would be. I doubt it would cost $15 to ship but who knows.

Thanks for the offer Ken. I think Ill hold out for something local (plus Id like to have a local source if I can convince someone to carry it if it turns out to be as good as suspected).

I just take a rag and wipe off all the zerk fittings. Chip off any paint overs pray that might block the fitting.
Then take a small punch and check the balls & springs of each fitting are working correctly.
Then work my way around the tractor with a hand held grease gun. Don't have to hold the hose on unless you can't get it to stay straight on the zerk.

I have a flex hose gun with Lock-N-Lube fitting. Some days I can get all the zerks ( about 36) on the tractor, loader & grapple and hardly get a spot on me. Then there are days like yesterday - I ended up with grease everywhere - the harder I tried the worse it got. At least I got thru all the fittings without a single one that was "locked up". A minor miracle. And my son has become wise to my special invites for a good 'ol day. He no longer will even come near one of my grease guns.

I was dreading the first greasing session. Got myself an electric Milwaukee. Even without a lock-n-lube (or the alternative one) it really wasn't bad. Worst was the backhoe, have to swing it around to reach both sides. A few underneath so a creeper came in handy. But none refused to take grease or came off when I took the coupler off.

Not really a PIA at all (warm weather, inside garage with concrete floor) for me and my recent vintage (still pretty clean) tractor.

The thing about greasing machinery is, the less often it is done, the more trouble it is to do.

I think that is the key, right there. I always hear about these zerks that won't take grease.. Gotta wonder the last time they were greased..:)
