+1, Those commenting don't even know how they would react, some of the what many would consider to be the tough guys turn out to be ***** cats. HS.

And the opposite is true too. Some of the meekest mildest mannered guys and gals, turn into Tasmanian devils when their loved ones or themselves are threatened. Fight or Flight. It is hard to predict.

I was a federal LE guy for decades, now retired, I started the TX CHL process and stopped. I am very concerned the license will only put me on a list, and make me and my weapons a target of government someday in the future. HS.

I understand your point HS but it is probably too late to stay under the radar with respect to gun ownership.

I did just the opposite, even though I must be on lists already from military service and a number of security clearances. About 2 years ago one of our state's major newspapers said they were going to publish a list of all persons that had a concealed carry permit. That really angered me, as I felt they just wanted to instigate the gun control issue and publicly expose people who mind their own business and live within the laws.

When the newspaper made that threat, I purchased my first hand gun ever (I own rifles), completed training, and obtained my concealed carry permit. I e-mailed the newspaper and dared them to include me on their list and told them I am now part of the fight. It was my way of saying that I will not yield my rights to anyone that does not agree with my activity. I live a quiet and peaceful life here on my hill, and I won't be pushed into a corner by people that can't mind their business. As it turns out, the public backlash against the newspaper's plans was quite severe and they never published the list.

Really hate to request one and find I have a flag in the system though.
On the other hand, that flag would show up if I bought a new shotgun or rifle too.

How so? For anyone to know what you bought the authority would have to go to your local gun store and search though the paper work to find it. When the store gets back ground check, the store doesn't report anything about the sale, just a yes/no is exchanged. Nothing more. HS

Just because you carry a firearm does not mean it will be or should be deployed, it just gives you that option. All training I've had before and since retirement emphasized the "Continuum of Force" and that the firearm is to be used only when a lesser degree of force has not or cannot handle the situation and you are unable to otherwise extricate yourself from the situation through peaceful means.

The emotional and financial aftermath of a use of deadly force incident is something no one wants to go through.

And to add to TripleR's excellent post, if one has to use his firearm, one shoots to stop...not kill, not wound...just to stop an assailant. Once the assailant stops (for whatever reason), the shooting stops.

+1, stopping the behavior, or threat. We always shot for "center mass" in our training. HS
