My 2002 ford escape has 240k miles on it. It doesn't get driven much anymore as it is really only used as a dog car when we need to take one of them to the vet, they won't fit in the Jetta TDI.

We kept our 1983 240D Benz for 25 years after buying it used 1 year in 1984. It had around 260k miles on it, having been stored for 4 1/2 years while we were in Singapore.

I kept it hoping to get another stick shift diesel from Mercedes. They have one almost a clone of the VW Jetta TDI in Europe. They won't bring it over. So, I finally got my wife to give it up and bought a 2010 VW Jetta TDI in the fall of 2009. It now has nearly 40k miles on it. I love it so much more than the Benz. My wife wishes there was a car somewhere that she could still see the corners on, like she could on the 240D. None exist. Maybe one reason why some buy SUVs.

My neighbor down the street has a 2001 E250 Ford Van with a 5.4 that just spun a bearing yesterday with 398,000 miles. Original motor, second trans. Its a service vehicle that pulled a 7K trailer 2/3 of its life. He maintains about 50 rental properties, both residential and commercial.

I'm old enough to remember when the first time we saw the next years vehicles was at the State Fair of Texas in Dallas in October each year.

We had a local Chevy dealer. They used to bring in the new models with white cloth covers then would stash them in a nearby barn until the big day. We used to sneak into the barn for a peek. Never forget the 63 split window Vette when we pulled the cover back.
