How much does my truck weigh?

I called my dealer and he said the build sheet says 4177 pounds. Does that sound right? I see guys here talking about 6, 7 & 8000 pound trucks. That is what got me to the question. Here are the specs.

2007 GMC 2500HD 4X4
extended cab
79 inch bed
6.0 V-8
gcwr = 16,000 lbs
gvwr = 9,200 lbs

Could be but sounds a little light for a 2500 IMO. My 2007 dodge 2500 Mega with diesel engine and tools in the back weights just over 9k pounds.

I would think more around 5k with the gas engine. Go to a truck stop with a scale and weight it up.

My 2002 Dodge Ram w/ cummins, short bed - fuel fuel, me (190#) and a cross over tool box in the bed - weighed a tad over 7200 lbs..

Your dealer is nuts. A stripped down, short bed, reg cab, 2wd is likely more than that.

There should be another sticker inside the door that has tire information. It will also list the payload capacity of the truck.

Take the 9200GVWR - whatever the payload sticker says and you have your answer +/- a few pounds. And ofcourse that dont account for whatever you added, tools, passengers, etc.

I am guessing somewhere between 5800-6200# empty

Yea, should be north of 5000lbs, my tundra weighs in at 5500 give or take after looking into it.

According to NADA, a similar crew cab (not ext.) has a curb weight of 5857 lbs. Yours should be close.

Does the title and or registration not have a GVW stated?...I thought some states used the GVW on the title to determine how much the tag tax is...?

Your in Iowa,there has to be a grain elevator fairly close,go there & weigh it & you will know then.

'Curb' weight is usually empty of fuel, coolant and oil. Grain elevator will weigh it or and truck stop with a CAT scale. (You will have to pay at the TS.)

i thought curb weight was full fuel, oil, ect. and included 150lbs for a driver??

My title and registration doesn't list the gvw. I would hate to bother the busy folks at the grain elevator, they have consolidated with the surrounding towns and keep busy enough without guys like me pestering them. A fellow TBN member PMed me with info from a 2013 model of 6310 lbs. And 3 or 4 of you above said 5800 or so. I guess that's close enough for now. And it is getting easier to say that my dealer may be a little dis-lec-sick (sp) and got his numbers jumbled up.

On vehicles designed for the United States market...the GVW can be found on the Vehicle ID Plate...
Subtract the payload rating for curb weight

Where is the ID plate? On the door post? If so, GVW isn't listed there.

I did find a decal that said to "never exceed passenger and cargo weight of 3069 lbs". If I subtract that number from the GVWR of 9,200 I get 6131. Could that be the actual weight of the truck?

It's really not my bag to say but that does sync with 'LD1's estimation...

Just an off the wall suggestion...
If there is no commercial scales local to you... and you really want to find out for sure...you might check with your closest state trooper office...they usually have portable ways of weighing vehicles...
