How tight are your chains?

Only tight chains on my equipment on the rare occasions I use them .......... tractors, trucks, ATV's, UTV"s.

Thanks. I'll be sure to do that. Right now all I have is the pamphlet. It says 18 x 8.5-10 R4 for the front, and 26 x 12-12 R4 for the rear.

Per tirechains.com, you'll want 2.5" clearance between the fender and tire to fit chains. That may mean you'll need to swap the rear wheels side to side or possibly require spacers.

When do you expect to get your tractor? You'll want to ensure there is clearance, or can make clearance (see paragraph above) before you order your chains.

When I first bought my 3320...due to the lack of clearance, I installed screw-in studs in lieu of chains for icy conditions....once I installed my wheel spacers this summer I was able to install chains....my chains of choice (since the 70's) have always been from Canadian Chains in Skowhegan, Maine Canadian Chains [Home] Of course, the fact that they are only about an 1.5 hour drive from here means there is no shipping cost..just the pleasant drive across Rte 2 ....and I agree with what appears to be the general consensus..the tighter the better (just ignore the cursing while they are being installed)

Them are some good looking chains, mine just go straight across my tread pattern... that would probably explain my bumpy ride... I would have liked to had a set like yours!

i have 2 link ladder chains and they are also a bit bumpy when driving on concrete, but i don't even notice them when driving on gravel roads pushing snow.

Mine are super bumpy on my gravel driveway! Now I am wandering if I can add some of my own chain in-between to soften the ride...

Yes. I have done this and it does help to smooth the ride.

Depends upon what you want your chains for. For winter snow and ice, i usually make them tight. For mud, loose chains clear themselves of mud much better.

Yes, you could...but consider the added weight during installation.

Roy has a good point about the added weight when adding more cross chains. I have a set which I added cross chains to and I have to drag them around plus it's a pain to install those chains. This particular set is for a farm tractor and I'd guess each tire chain is well over 200 lbs. Of course compacts would be lighter but still very heavy.

Ken, I will have to find a happy medium with them then.... I am not done pulling firewood out yet and we have had nothing but rain here in PA.....

Yeah I have no idea how these are going to be taking off and putting on? The dealer installed them for me this time... All I know is I can feel my inside shaking apart going down my driveway in low range... Maybe I will just leave them be this year other than snugging them up a bit...

No doubt, installation is going to be a PITA the first time you do this. Heck, just untangling and getting them laid down straight is a job!

What kind (style) of chains do you have? What size?

Not sure? Looks like they are spaced apart about 12"-14"... They look really big and heavy! I will try to take a picture of them tonight when I get home from work and post it on here...
