Here's how I dealt (I hope...) with twisting forces when I mounted my grapple thumb to my forks.

Xfax, thanks for reviving the thread. Always love your beast pics.

That's beefy, PHPaul.

Remembered this old, but good thread today when I used the bucket to "no grapple" an old dead tree to the brush pile:

Dumped it on the pile:

Thanks for the revival, never seen this thread before. I've been doing a lot of this the last 4 weeks!

A small cedar tree near the fence:

Pulled it with the Long Arm puller on the V417:

Wedged in over the bar the rippers are mounted on in the box blade to move it:

Here is a job that would have been better with the grapple or the forks, but the bucket was already on so I used the bucket teeth.

Carrying a 12' gate:

Added a 10' panel:

Moved them to the storage area:

Another bump to this interesting old thread.

A no lid grapple, otherwise known as a land plane, moving a cut off years ago cedar tree:

I'm finding my adjustable forks that I purchased soon after creating this thread have served me well. Still want a grapple but not high on the priority list. A recent drop of a fir tree and scooping with the forks was as close to grappling I get I guess.

Looks like you are doing pretty well with the bucket and forks. However, gotta admit - once I put my grapple on, it's never come off. I never took pics of moving pine tree trunks or large rocks with my bucket. Horse it onto the bucket( pine tree trunks) - tip it back - strap it down.
