How to transition to MIG?

Years ago my dream was to marry a successful lingerie model who owned a string of LWSs as a part of her investment portfolio.

Nice that you did so much better for what was too short a time, eh? (BTDT, no appropriate smiley for it ..)

My wife would have taken a welding class with me, in between auto mechanics that she was taking at MCC when she passed in '80. :)

I'm about to get my first gas bottle. Size and budget are pretty loose. Wouldn't a 125 cu ft bottle of C25 is as good a starting place as any?

I plan nothing but farm repairs and mild steel fabrcation.

125 is good IMO

I use mostly 80’s only because I have bottles on multiple carts and consumption is low. 80 cu ft bottles are so easy to handle also.

How long do those 80 cf bottles last? (In hours, or ft of bead). My projects are generally repairs rather than fabrication so 80 might be sufficient.

What I remember is it costs about the same to fill a 125 or an 80 bottle. So I bought the 125 bottle. They are getting heavier as I get older. But I am getting more creative on having to move them.

Thanks! That's just what I needed.

Four hours from an 80 cf tank sounds like enough for practice and minor repairs in the first year. Then the next fill should be multiple years after I know what I'm doing.

I've stuck with flux-core because I weld at an open-front barn stall with drafts (old photo when a neighbor visited) but I'm ready to see if I can make prettier welds.

I fill my C25 125 bottle about every 6 months. My oxygen and acetylene bottles less often as I mainly use it for cutting.

You can always hang tarps in the stall to block the drafts. You can set it up to where you hang the tarps just while welding and fold them up when not using them.

You can and you WILL.
