Re: HST Just Won\'t Stop, Quit, Woah!

Spencer200 thanks for the help. I really don't understand why some folks won't share information when there is a problem and we can all benefit from the repair.

My dealer has been a terrific guy otherwise and has always taken care of my problems to date. However getting these part numbers for others was a touchy subject with him. I think that the Internet suggests a threat to some folks especially since dealers like Corriher has starting selling NH tractors nationwide. For some dealers that has meant accepting less for the same deal or losing it altogether.

My personal thoughts are these. If I learn how to make something better, of come up with a solution for a problem then I'm going to share that info, not sit on it. Unfortunately some folks might not agree with that sentiment.

Here is a picture of the stock TC-40D return spring and mount assembly. Notice that my adjustment is just about maxed out on the tension adjustment.

Here is a picture of the modified TC-40D return spring and mount assembly. Notice that there is still plenty of adjustment that may be made to the return spring. The spring itself is also much larger.

Here is picture number 2 of the modified TC-40D return spring and mount assembly.

Although the return spring is larger the HST pedal is easier to push and feels a lot smoother in operation.

Re: HST Just Won\'t Stop, Quit, Woah!

I have been having the exact same problem with my TC40D as everybody else here. I called my dealer on Friday about it and he said he would check into it. I got a call back from him today and it sounds like I am going to get the same fix. A new spring and some other adjustments. He is going to come out and pick up the tractor and return it after upgrade free of charge. This is just a great example of why dealer selection is sometimes more important than price selection. My dealer has given me nothing but the best service I could ask for. If anyone is looking for an excellent NH dealer in Northeast Pa, let me know.

Re: HST Just Won\'t Stop, Quit, Woah!

Thanks, Mike and Spencer200! Great photos and great info. Last Sunday I stalled my tractor for the first time in a long time. I had it in low/rabbit and started up a hill with the engine rpm too low. When I instintively went to lift my foot to do a gear change, the pedal just kept travelling down by itself until the motor stalled. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif If I had had the rpm up or was in a lower range it would not have happened.

By the way, the tractor was stopped while all this was going on. The hydro was completely in stall mode. As soon as the engine quit, the pedal popped back into my foot, so I can definitively say that the tranny was responsible for the problem and not just the pedal mechanism. I think I'll ask my dealer about ordering a kit for me. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif My warranty is long-gone, but this is something I want to take care of.

Re: HST Just Won\'t Stop, Quit, Woah!

I just came back in from using the snow blower for a cup of coffee and to warm up. We are getting hit here in Ohio with one of the biggest snow storms of the season. Between my neighbors drive and mine I have been at it for several hours. I haven't yet been able to make the HST pedal stick since the kit was added and I have purposely let the RPM drop to around 1500 a couple of times to see if I could get any kind of negative response on the low end.

I'm hoping the HST pedal acts this smooth when I am pushing into a pile of dirt with the FEL instead of the snow I'm moving with it today.

Re: HST Just Won\'t Stop, Quit, Woah!

Yes the part number has been updated on our computer all ready and it does not sub backwards. So if that is the pivot number on the old class 3 in your part book than yes this is the replacement number.

Re: HST Just Won\'t Stop, Quit, Woah!

I would suspect that a lot of the dealers are afraid of the liability issue when giving out information that may lead to an identified problem. You know the lawyer thing!!
