Re: HST Just Won\'t Stop, Quit, Woah!

My dealer has been a terrific guy otherwise and has always taken care of my problems to date. However getting these part numbers for others was a touchy subject with him. I think that the Internet suggests a threat to some folks especially since dealers like Corriher has starting selling NH tractors nationwide. For some dealers that has meant accepting less for the same deal or losing it altogether.

Nowdays, many people shop only on price alone. That's why Walmart does more business than the corner hardware store. Buying from my local dealer was very important to me, but I'm not going to pay too much more just to buy from them. It's nice to know that the guy I bought it from lives in the same neighborhood as me and that the dealership is only 7 miles down the road. Even though he came down to the price of the internet dealer, it was still a few hundred dollars more (because the other place's shipping was cheaper than paying the Ohio sales tax), but I felt that to be able to buy from the local guy, it was an important concession to make.

However, since the local dealer doesn't have the reputation of the absolute lowest, rock bottom price, he needs to make up for it in other ways...

If they have a reputation for excellent customer service, for example. When Mike has a problem, he then shares his dealer's fix with 9,000 other people on TBN. Even though a small fraction of those people will ever deal with that dealership, their willingness to share helpful information will bring additional traffic their way from the local TBN members.

It is VERY important for the small dealerships who can't stand out only on price to have other reasons to patronize them. I've learned that the hardware store on the corner has slightly higher prices than the big box stores, but their customer service is many, many times better!

We share our dealer experiences, both good and bad, with many other people, and only the good experiences will ultimately bring more business to the local guy.

Is the small local dealer a great place to make a purchase?
Absolutely!
Do a few of them need to make a change or two in their business to adapt to a changing retail environment?
Possibly...

Re: HST Just Won\'t Stop, Quit, Woah!

Thanks PineRidge and Spencer200 for the information and great pictures!

Yesterday after working my TC35D I noticed small drips of hydraulic oil (blood!) on the floor of my barn. I called the dealer (Coastline New Holland, Everett Washington) and told them I'd like to bring it in for repairs. Last night, I read the posts from PineRidge and Spencer that detailed the problem I've had and the repairs to fix this. Armed with new-found knowledge, I asked the dealer to make these changes when I brought the tractor in.

I talked about the HST problems I've had and showed them the post from PineRidge and the part numbers supplied by Spencer200. The dealer seemed surprised that I had the fix at hand....and said they would make the changes. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Thanks to everyone who contributes to this board! I'm keeping my fingers crossed that these changes will make a good tractor better!

The service manager said that he thought the hydraulic leak was a loose test port on the trans (under the seat). I'm delighted that these people have been so good to work with even though I bought my tractor used from a private party they reffered me to.

I'll be back to let you know the results of the HST spring change.....

Roger my TC-40D had a hydraulic leak since the day that I got it. When the dealer had it for a week taking care of the sticking HST pedal he fixed the leak at the same time. Originally he told me that he thought the relief valves were the cause of the hydraulic leak but when my tractor was returned he indicated that both test ports were where the leak originated. He went further to say that NH had not used thread sealant to seal the threads. I now have to wonder how many other NH tractors are dripping hydraulic fluid as a result? /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Do you get the impression that these folks may know more than they let on? Strange how your dealer guessed leaking test ports.

Re: HST Just Won\'t Stop, Quit, Woah!

My TC40D leaked at the test ports too.........It started at about 15 hours. Too bad Its already been in for the repair...........The hydro spring could have been fixed too !! My cruise wouldn't release and they fixed the test port leak at that time..........around 30 hours total time on the meter. Tom

Re: HST Just Won\'t Stop, Quit, Woah!

PineRidge,

I can't remember who said it on this thread but, someone said they have fixed the sticky pedal problem on the new DA models that came out not to long ago? I was just wondering and I sure am thankful for TBN to find all this information and keep updated on current issues.

Before to long I'll be purchasing a TC35DA and it's nice to find out these things ahead of time. I was also considering the JD 4410 ehydro. I'm sure their a fine tractor but from what I've herd on this thread and others it seems like NH might have the more reliable HST tranny. Plus after researching the NH's vs JD's I personally prefer to go with NH. Besides there Engines and Transmissions, it just seems like NH is a little more comfortable looking and user friendly. Just my opinion and I could be wrong. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Thanks, Greg

Re: HST Just Won\'t Stop, Quit, Woah!

Hi Greg welcome to the TBN site. I also looked at John Deere tractors but I have a real issue with the color green. When I eat Mexican food I won't even let them put guacamole on my plate. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The fit of the New Holland seemed right for me and I was immediately comfortable. I also liked the layout of the platform and associated controls including that great little deluxe FEL joystick complete with rabbit/turtle switch's. I really like my TC-40D and I'm hoping at this point that I have now worked through all the issues that required additional attention.

I don't think that you can go wrong with a TC-35DA, but then again my opinion may be blue biased. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Re: HST Just Won\'t Stop, Quit, Woah!

PineRidge,

So does the new TC35DAs have the improved spring system installed on the hydro pedals or was that someone else that mentioned that in this thread earlier? /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Re: HST Just Won\'t Stop, Quit, Woah!

TMAC I was told that all new Class III model DA tractors did have the improved parts. I have never personally crawled under one to see for myself and I was hoping some of the new DA owners might tell us if this information is indeed correct. Even if they don't have a shop manual they could compare the pictures that I posted earlier.

I also would not let this problem sway me from the purchase of any New Holland tractor. I still think NH makes some of the best tractors available at any price.

Re: HST Just Won\'t Stop, Quit, Woah!

No PineRidge,

I wasn't going to let this little issue change my decision to go with the TC35DA. I agree that NH is one of the finest manufacturers on the market. I've done clearly made my decision on that matter. Done researched all I want to convince me to go blue.

I'm just trying to prepare myself for the day when I go in and start dealing. To make myself aware of exactly what I'm getting and improvements that have been made or that may not have been made so I can confront and ask the dealer about a situation. All leading to the possibility of correcting a minor problem before I purchase one.

Thanks for the information. Looking at everybody's Boomer pics on here is really making me drool. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif I can't wait to jump on one and give it a test drive.

Re: HST Just Won\'t Stop, Quit, Woah!

Thanks to all of you who have made all these posts such a great learning experience for those of us who, up to this point may not have had such an interest. As a new, blue member, I'm taking all this in. At least I'll be able to converse almost inteligently about my sticking hydro with a dealer.

Thanx, PineRidge & Jinman for the attachments....it all makes a lot more sense when you add a pix to it.

I'll be interested to see the dealers response to my needs as a NH owner who purchased used from a 3rd party..... I have two dealers to choose from & they're equidistant, so this should be a good opportunity to gauge their level of service interest.

On another matter, should I in any way 'register' my blue ownership _if_ there happened to be a recall to address this problem?

Tomorrow's forecast in the NE looks like a good day to "work" with the tractor .......
