Why after 2010 would you need to replace your indoor coil if you need to change your outside unit?

410A at this time is more than R22, but after this year, goverment will "mandate" production of R22 until 2020, at which point R-22 will no longer be produced.

You will start to see a decrease (price) in 410A as production increases, and an increase in R22 and production decreases.

I am not speaking against R410, but be aware that R22 for service and repair will be available long, long after 2010. Production will stop, but all of the recovered/recycled gas wioll be available for sale. Today it is no problem to get R12 at reasonable prices, and R22 will be tha sema.

Currently R22 is 10 times more per pound than R-22.

Late 90's R12 was pushing $1200 for a 30lb jug /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

I honestly don't thinkg that R410A is the "way to go", but...as manufacturers increase production of 410A units, pricing will come down, and vise versa for R-22 units.

It will come down to economics as far as the contractor is concearned which unit is an "easier sell" (to the homeowner). At this point, R-22 units are cheaper, but...a couple of years from now that will not be the case.

Where can you get R 12 at a reasonable price ? What is a reasonable price ? $1500.00 - $1800.00 per 30 lb ! Not reasonable to me .

On ebay you can get 30 lb R12 cylinders for $ 200~$300. Prices at the wholesaler are not too much higher. After the R12 ban the prices did spike, but have been coming down ever since. The R22 market should not be anywhere as volatile since this has been a slow phase out with a well developed replacement market. Also the reclaim/recycle industry has been around many years and is mature.

I don't know if I would buy from e- bay. No telling what may arrive. I was talking to a guy at an auto repair shop back in the summer . There were several 30lb containers of what appeared to be R 12. I asked if he had gotten a good deal on it . He said that someone came by while he (the owner) was out & offered to sell aeveral containers of R 12 for $100.00 ea. One of his employees thinking that he was getting his boss a good deal purchased them (I think it was 8 or 10 jugs) ,it turned out to be R 22 labeled R12 & painted white.
